Title: Electronic Boost Controller
Post by: 1979scotte on April 2, 2018, 08:29
Anybody have any recommendations at the cheaper end of the market say around the 200 mark?
I know Apexi Avcr and Turbosmart are good but they're too expensive for a man with on eye on a standalone ECU.
Just want something with a little more accuracy and control then the manual one I have.
GFB seem popular although that could be the mighty car mods effect.
Have also been looking at Gizzmo which are a bit cheaper.

I think the Profec B was one of the other options out there back in the day - might be worth checking on driftworks to see if anyone is having a clearout.

Someone is selling an Apexi AVC-R for £150:

Profec doesn't hold a candle to avcr. Both expensive.

RA Performance in Scotland said they have a fair few lying around. Might be worth calling and asking what they'd be prepared to ship one over for

And you can ask them why they never bothered to get back to me..

Thanks for that it's a good bit of kit at a fair price but am a bit dubious of secondhand stuff. Especially not being a member on driftworks and knowing anybody there.

If they want anything close to the RRP then it's too expensive for me.
And their customer service doesn't sound too hot.
Subaru fanatics probably look down there nose at an MR2.
Especially a roadster.

If I can get one I think I am going to go for a Gizzmo ibc R.
Only a little more than GFB geforce 2 but will reference against rpm.

Ordered the Gizzmo

Think it does a lot for the money

Does what I want at a price I can justify/afford.
Hopefully.
Got to be safer than manually controlling the boost.

@1979scotte (https://www.mr2roc.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=20268) how big is the unit?
Is it gonna be fitted in the engine bay?

Just thinking about our heated discussion! ;)

Only thing in the bay will be the solenoid.
Head unit is all the electronics.
Mac solenoids are quality by all accounts have no problems in turbo engine bays should be fine here.
