I assume when doing the 2zz swap, because of the extra rev range the overall gearing is lower, ie cruising up the motorway i would be pulling more revs than my 1zz 6th gear..

Even with the 6th gear swapped you'll still find it's reving higher in 6th than it was with the 1zz set up. It's no longer a cruiser. One of the sacrifices going for the 2zz swap.

According to mathematics, using the C64 6th gear from a Corolla T-Sport, I was seeing 55.75MPH at 3,000RPM in 6th gear.
After I swapped to a C65 6th gear from a UK 6-Speed MR2, I am seeing 62.68MPH at 3,000RPM in 6th gear.
Makes the C65 6th gear about 12.4% longer than the C64.
It was well worth it in my opinion.
A point of interest - a while ago, I wound the C64 5th gear out to the rev limiter (130+ MPH). When I changed up to 6th gear (C65), the RPM dropped low enough to fall out of lift.
Not really a problem unless you are going to be able to max out the C64 5th gear on track (highly doubtful anywhere in the UK).
2zz swapped cars aren't really for cruising, all the power is top end so gearing is only an issue when driving between home and whatever track you are going to, the 2zz doesn't have any low down torque really for town driving etc.

2ZZ has 180Nm peak torque @ 6,800RPM.
Granted, the areas under the curve may be different, but the higher 2ZZ final drive more than makes up for the higher RPM peak torque point.
Honestly, there's really not much in it up to 6,000RPM.

Absolutely makes perfect sense: a 2zz using gears 1-5 (more likely 1-3!!) and keep the engine in lift for track or when you're "on it"... then drop out of lift and drive it like a 1zz when you're cruising with the proletariat... I assume the stock gear spacings mean you can keep it in lift from 20mph to about 90mph just in the first 3 gears or are there gaps even if you change up on the limiter?

I can keep the car in lift from 1st gear to 5th gear if I change up just before the limiter. Doesn't drop out at all.
You want the C60. It stays in lift in gears 2-5 and cruises at a lower RPM in 6th.
This sounds like a top tip. Need to start hunting for 6speed c65 for the swap, i do quite a bit of Mway driving and it gets tiresome.
anyone else see c64 and think of a commodore?
Your tire size also makes a difference.
