What jobs have you got planned for it today Mike?

I'm looking at fitting the replacement passenger seat onto my driver's seat rails after lunch.

Friday I stripped the old seat off in about 50 minutes, which would have been a bit quicker because I did this on the lounge (or some might call this a living room) floor whilst the missus was at work. Why indoors you might ask, well it looked like rain was due. If I didn't have to keep going out to the garage for extra tools it would have been even quicker. Then sanded off some rust from the front rail fixings, rust treated it just for good measure and got a couple of coats of primer (outside BTW, not still indoors  ;D ) on before it got dark. Then as I was out at RADwood in Bicester yesterday I only managed to get 4 top coats on before it got too late.

I got the passenger seat fitted on the driver's seat rails and all installed in the car without too much issue, with the trickiest part getting the back rest bar located correctly without the felt washers falling off. Also I had to cut a hole for the height adjuster as well as cut off the pocket which protects the seat belt electrical connection and re-stitch it onto the opposite of the seat. Then gave under seat area a good vacuum before bolting the seat back in.
I torqued up the bolts to 50NM as I couldn't find any info on the correct setting, does anyone know what they should be?

There is a Torque reference guide on here -

https://www.mr2roc.org/forum/index.php?topic=52948.0

And a more comprehensive one here-

https://www.spyderchat.com/threads/torque-spec-compilation.20795/#post-320479

But neither give a figure for the fixings.

Norbar make Torque wrenches and offer this-

https://www.norbar.com/Portals/0/downloads/TorqueValueGuide.pdf

These supply fixings  and offer the following-

https://www.fastenermart.com/files/metric_tighten_torques.pdf

You will see that several factors affect the Torque tightening values from quite obviously the diameter of the fixing, but also including the material grade of the fixing and the material of the mating part, and also the finish and coating/ plating and lubrication.

@MikeBoo

I'll try to find it, but I know it's less than 50.
Not much at all.
38 comes to mind.

37nm not 38.

Today I finished buffing up the headlights, yesterday I first wet sanded the NS light with 1000 & 2000 grit, though today I didn't bother sanding the OS light. Then I used a cheap rotary polisher on both, starting with Farecla G3, moving onto some Meguiars Ultimate and finishing off with Turtle Wax Headlight Restorer Wax which also protects against future oxidation and yellowing.
Here's a before & after of the OS light:

Today some dynamic side repeaters arrived in the post and in between work & rain showers I managed to fit them.

Over the weekend I cleaned the replacement passenger seat, swapped over the plastic trims & sprayed the front rail fixings to tidy it up and I now have a pair of decent seats without any significant wear or sun damage ;D
This time I torqued the bolts down to the recommended 38Nm, rather than 50Nm when I swapped the driver's seat.

This also allowed to get at the grot under the seat, so now spic & span.

As Johnny Smith would say, I've done a bit carology when I found this hidden under the handbrake cover as I prepared to look at the handbrake adjustment:
(https://i.ibb.co/JnhQPjm/IMG-2229.jpg) (https://ibb.co/JnhQPjm)
I'd already found the remnants of this 3rd party alarm with several holes, LED & wiring in the dash which I've already fixed with replacement parts.

I think that I've sorted the handbrake travel after reading the 'How To's' on this forum and watching some YouTube videos.
In summary, inside I removed the centre console, freed off the handbrake cable nuts to ensure that there was plenty of free play.
Then jacked up the rear, removed the wheels, found that the brake cables looked like new and made sure that the caliper levers & cables moved freely and returned fully to their stops, greased up all the pivot points.
Then back inside adjusted the handbrake, checking the wheels still moved freely with the handbrake fully off, then re-fitted the road wheels and took the car for spin (after a few other jobs) with the roof & windows down (as usual & it was still a toasty 14C outside anyway) to double check that there was no brake bind and that the handbrake worked as it should.

Now it takes about 7 or 8 clicks to fully on, with it impossible to pull more than 10 no matter how hard I try.

Job done & done  ;D

Busy, busy today on the 2.

I thought that post I'd separate posts to save having one long one.

I've taken all of the wheels off, cleaned the inside faces, so they are now like new and re-fitted the correct nuts to the front & rear wheels after finding that I had 2 long nuts on 1 rear wheel and only 1 long nut on the other rear with the rest used on the front with the rest being the short nuts which should have been on the front wheels, either by a previous owner or tyre fitter  ::)

Also, I think that I've fixed the clutch squeak whilst I had the car up on axle stands. I pulled off the clutch housing boot and got my finger in there with some grease.
This was really awkward especially seeing as my trolley jack can only just lift the car to the lowest setting to get the axle stands under the sill jacking points.
Then there was the tricky job of re-fitting the rubber boot correctly.

All done now and squeak free which will hopefully stay that way for some time now  ;D

Final job of the day was to wire brush off the loose rust from the rear suspension components and coat with some Flag Rust Convertor, they now look quite smart even after one of my cats decided to rub the back of his neck on it.
Nothing unusual there as he regularly returns home with a dirty neck  ::)

Took the 2 out for a quick drive this evening. Obviously with the roof down as it was nice and warm again at 13C.
No exhaust rattle, no clutch squeak & I know that the rev limiter still works & the tyres also work well around corners  ;D , also 4 wheels were still on when I got home.
I only tested the handbrake once parked up on a level road, so the lever still works and 8 clicks is plenty. I guess we'll find out by early Feb next year at MOT time if all is good.

The clutch squeak from the fork in the housing has returned  :-\
Over the past couple of days I've had another (and possibly the final) go at greasing this up, and today I finished off drilling out 3 broken rear undertray bolts and replacing with helicoils as well as taping out the other 3 in an attempt to reduce the chance that they don't go the same way.
A few weeks ago gave the rear undertrays a good degrease and clean and now they are back on with stainless bolts and washers and with two new plastic trim clips also fitted.

Use an aerosol for the clutch fork. Lithium works, but if you know of a stickier type, use it.

Spooky, that's exactly what I used this time.

It's been a while since I posted here.

Today I went out for a run to a local classic car show this afternoon and had forgotten that the last time I went out, the audio system failed to power up but remembered that even though I'd checked all of the engine and luggage compartment fuses I hadn't checked the passenger compartment fuse Box.
So after I'd discovered that AD08RS don't work well on wet grass on a hill and crabbed my away out of my parking spot leaving 2 tracks behind me and also grounded it on the rutted rock infested track several times due to my lowered 2 and had returned home. I looked into why I had no tunes. it turned out to be fuse 27, which for some reason wasn't even on the list I had originally found on the internet a month ago, but was today, though it was the same webpage; must have been updated since I first looked.
However not all was sorted because my main passenger door speaker was no longer working :'(
After cheese & crackers I set to work removing the door card and removing the speaker I discovered that there was a dry solder joint, soon the door was back together and everything back to factory on the audio front.

Other than an oil & filter change, lots of general titivating and checking everything was working I had another year of advisory free MOT in February which has now been the case since 2020  ;D

I think that the only thing left is to sort the paint on the rear bumper.
