Title: C60/C64 gearbox rebuild specialists
Post by: JB21 on February 13, 2023, 13:27
Apart from Rogue does anyone know where I could get my C60 rebuilt? Location isn't an issue as I'd send them to box and arrange collection once done.

Anyone know a ball park figure for full rebuild?

Paul Woods. Used to have company Woodsport, but does transmission stuff on his own.

These boxes are really easy to rebuild, its the tools and bearings costs that kills it for the average joe. You can measure and rebuild it in 4-5 hours. Tools, bearings and 4th gear syncro cost me in the area of 500 quids 2 years ago. Spent like 15 hours on it but now can do it a lot faster.

I'm all ears, even finding someone who would swap a diff over properly seems nearly impossible. Plenty of folk said yes, but then when I questioned about setting the shims correctly they didn't have a clue.... I bet most of them are just swapped by f***tards and have excessive backlash.

I've never met him, but he castigates people on the f'book groups for not using pre-load. I believe a popular thing he does now is 6-speed conversions for Mk1's.
I heard recently that diff bearings cost into 3 figures.

I have used Bristol transmission for years. Highly recommended. No issues with manual boxes. I've had 3 VW T5 boxes done in last few years, 2 Renault Masters 2 MR2 boxes although 1 was deemed to damaged to repair economically so we replaced with a used 5 speed (Chilli Girls Sapphire mr2).

Quote from: Anon on February 14, 2023, 10:12I deal with them too (Simon I think it is?), I'll ask next time they ring as they have some bits on their way to me at the moment.

Yep Simon is a good guy very helpful. He couldn't source me a layshaft for a 1938 Morris Minor 3 speed gearbox I had in a few years ago but then nowhere else could either!

I've used Patrick Chambers but he has currently a 2 month waiting list to swap a diff and preload etc.
