Title: mixing tyres (17" wheels) help!
Post by: mph on August 13, 2003, 22:59
Decisions decisions.

Goodyear Eagle F1s:

It seems you can't get 205/40s in GS-D2, nor can you get 225/35 in GS-D3 - these being the optimum sizes to maintain the rolling raduii against the original 15s.

So what are your thoughts on:

Option A:
Mixing 205/40 GS-D3s at the front & 225/35 GS-D2s at the rear.

or

Option B:
Using 205/40 & 215/40 all in GS-D3s.

Note that 215/40 give a +3.0% sizing error vs. +0.6% sizing error with the 225/35.

'Cos I have a set of 17x7" wheels for road use, and the stock 15s for track use. The 17s are currently nekkid (and hence why I was on stocks for JAE) but since I'm off to do the Dijon & Magny Cours circuits, I need to get both sets up and going.

Sunday 24th @ Dijon-Prenois; Monday 25th @ Magny Cours. Details at BookaTrack (http://www.bookatrack.com). They'll need to know ASAP if you're intending to come along and watch or wanting to passenger etc.

Hi Martin,

You can get those sizes as I put 17's on last week and I put 205/40 and 225/35 Eagle F1 GSD2s on. I got them from Hi-Q (Owned by Goodyear).

Let me know if you need contact details etc.

That does it then, 205/225s it is. Oh my 35 profile - that's not a lot of sidewall flex before the tail comes out   s:shock:  s:shock:

I know that the 35/40/50/whatever is the relation of the sidewall to the tyre width.  But does a 35 tyre inherently have less sidewall flex than a 50 profile tyre?

I ask because surely something like 205/50 and 225/35 have the same height sidewall, even if the relation of sidewall to width is different.
