Soo... first coats of paint down... it's going to need some serious blending! Or maybe just a matching paint code!

So I just got a renewal notice through from Adrian Flux... £1100 !!!!!

They some how think that the last years worth of incidents justifies it. They seem to have taken away my NCB, even though I've not made any claim against my insurance... roll on 9am when the phone lines open cos this is utterly ridiculous. If I cannot get the insurance down to sub £400 then it's going to be decision time.

Mate that does suck :( insult to injury. Chin up, I'm sure you'll get a better quote than that. Good luck on the phones ... speaking to insurance companies is a thankless task if ever there was one.

You're not the first to be assaulted by Adrian Flux.  I'm confident you'll get a proper deal elsewhere.

Cheers Mark & Carolyn - I appreciate it.. I'm basically learning that you NEVER contact an insurance company for our cars if it's not your fault. No good will come of it. The only reason to contact them is if an incident is your fault and you need to lawyer up so that the insurance company can pay out or whatever...

jvanzyl

So having spoken to "Edward", this is the situation.
Apparently "all" insurers operate in the following fashion:
Any unresolved claims (i.e. my January incident where my stationary car leaped out at the poor Addison Lee driver) essentially invalidate all NCB's you might have. The insurer will treat you as guilty until proven innocent in this time and they say that any increased premium that you will have paid (assuming you take out their ludicrous renewal) will be refunded. Bearing in mind the July incident last year is still not closed, that would mean that I would pay out £1181 now, and then hope to reclaim the difference at around February next year... good luck with anyone trying to that I say.

I have informed them that due to their inability to be reasonable, I'll be removing all three of our cars from their policies upon renewal. Somehow I think that I might need to take the car off the road until the insurance stuff is resolved and it becomes financially viable to drive.

Carolyn

Isn't the lack of resolution of those the result of you not deciding how best to proceed? Correct me if I'm wrong, but you were deciding which claim to pursue and how best to proceed??

Can't you just get one settlement and move on?

The first claim in July dragged on initially due to me disputing the value of the car.
They admitted liability but I got caught in the "hire car" trap where the 3rd party insurers dispute the need for a hire car as it transpired the car was a "driveable" loss.
They are unwilling to pay for the repair, and will not talk to my insurers on the phone. The accident claim company are now saying that I have to make a claim against my insurance policy in order to get the costs of the hire car back if they cannot get the 3rd party insurer to deal with, apparently in the wording of the contract that I signed it says this which is fan fing fantastic. Total invoice for the hire car is £500 odd for 3 days which is a joy. So anyway the fact that this is dragging on is causing the Jan incident with Addison Lee to also be delayed.

I've told incident 1 people that I'm going to progress with incident 2 and get the car written off which would hopefully free up funds to pay off the hire car and I'll attribute that to the school of life.
Saying that Incident 2 3rd party insurers are now disputing their liability.. I hate this.

Fitted the cheapest togaurd dash cam.
It's the kind with the mirror being a touch screen and had the front camera built into it.
Front resolution is hd but I think the back might actually be vga- it's not the end of the world.
It doesn't seem to do seamless recording, I either get Chunks or just brief clips unless I specify the file size, so I've gone for 3 minutes and I hope that nothing happens in the 10 seconds it's saving the file for in between clips...

Many thanks to @shnazzle  for pointing out that the dome light produces 12v and the camera actually only wants 5v...

Anyway it was £30...

Ok so it looks like I shall be paying the "man" and stumping up silly money in order to drive my car until the horrid little Addison Lee driver admits liability or at least his insurers do so for him.

Anyway- I've finally managed to get a chance to work on it, so changed 3 of the wheels to summer, the fourth having a nice Nail in it'll be taken for repair in the morning:

Also took off the hardtop and managed to clear up the garage floor, repair some of the walls, lay the rest of the four panels and do a general cleanup! It's now a nice place to work in!

I don't envy you one bit.

If only I could come up with a business model, where I can charge people hundreds of pounds for something they never want to use, are legally obliged to have it and make life as difficult as possible should they consider using it.

Cheers man.. appreciate it.

I basically want to be able to drive down and socially distance and visit my mom. I haven't physically seen her for I think 6 months and haven't even been able to be there for the anniversary of my dad passing last year. At the end of the day its only money..

Gave the primer from the paints4u kit and I must say it was immediately noticeable his much better it was than the Simonz can I've tried previously...

Also had a go at repairing the rust hole with some body filler... Totally got the mix wrong with way too much hardner but we'll see if it hold up under sanding..

Thanks very much.. yeah despite being at home I seem to have less time than ever.. so I have to do bits when I can, but that often leads to rushing and I make mistakes like with the filler..

I do think it might look kind of cool in primer grey... but I'll carry on for now and see how it turns out in the 1D0..

jvanzyl

Right, so in the time that has passed I'm actually now on my second attempt at doing this fender. The first attempt resulted in drips in the clear coat which I didn't resolve to my satisfaction and ended up repriming and starting again.

This time round I finished the primer off with 2500 and pretty much sorted and possible trace or orange peel effect. Did the base coat, which went on quite nicely, and then got 4 coats into the clear and got a minor drip. This time round however I'm equipped with a bit more experience and should hopefully be able to resolve it and then will proceed to wet sand up till about 3 or 5k grit and then I'll use some autosol polish to buff it out...

I'm looking forward to it (when they clear has hardened tomorrow or the next day) the only thought in the back of my mind is if I need to add more clear coat- but it's had about 500ml.. so we'll see. Cars gonna have one very shiny new looking panel in amongst the rest!

Thanks Simon.

Well... that's the thing.. if i were to do the whole car I'd choose another colour (something cheaper than 1D0 at least!).. and that would make all this effort for this panel kind of redundant apart from the learning..
It is definitely so much easier to paint the panels off the car, and I have spares for everything apart from the bonnet and boot lids and the rear quarters... I guess I'd need a new drivers fender as well..

I don't know what other colour would go with the colour scheme I've currently got?

Topdownman

All good experience I guess.

Pretty sure I advised against that blue roof!
