Hi All,

after the into topic time has come for a short write up of my recently acquired MR-S MY 2000. Car has been imported from Poland to Croatia a few weeks back and I have just finished the import process.

It took me three years to source one that has a hard top, pre-redesign, low price and decent body. Car has 179 000 km on the clock and for the last twelve years was with the same owners who used it to do daily errands throughout the year- including winter (Ill come back to that later). Its completely stock, with red and black leather interior, TTE rear spoiler, stock 15 inch wheels. Bad points are and were 14 inch winter tires that the car came on with a transporter, 15 y.o. summer tires, engine that smokes like crazy during until it heats up, rusty suspension.

First thing I did was to throw away 14 inch tires and wheels and put on stock 15 inch alloys with the new set of stock 185 55 15 front and 205 50 15 back Unirolay rainsports. Originally the plan was to have the car fixed and register ASAP but by the looks of it Ill take a different approach.

Now it would be a good time to explain a little bit why did I decide to buy a MRS and why this particular one. Well some years ago I used to own and tun Clio II RS that was a great car for that time and budget - a fun car that got me connected to the same like minded people and it was a bag of fun. Three years after I bought it  Ive crashed it during an unofficial slalom race, it was sold like that. Life took me to another route but I always had a buy. 10 years to nowadays and I have managed to find time and funds to afford another fun car, this time a mid engine RWD project car with the same vision, creating a weekend fun car/ track car/ slalom racer.

Idea is to swap a 2ZZ, LSD C60 in ti and all that comes with it and to have fun along the way. Ill need a lot of help during that process and this car is a extremely rare sight in Croatia and parts/ know how in basically non existent so Ill have to import everything. Hopefully Ill have your support in this process which will make it quicker, cheaper and more fun :)

That is all for today, Ill put a few pictures as Im tiered after an 20 hour day.

Ive decided not to register the car now and take another route. Ill store it over the winter and hopefully by spring time Ill have a 2zz/ LSD/ gearbox installed.

Need some help about sourcing decent swap package (engine, gearbox, ECU etc.) and have it shipped here in CRO so my mechanic can do the swap. Any tips and recommendations on where to look who to contact so I dont waste time? UK/ EU based ideally so I dont pay too much on shipping/ import fees. Who can I get in touch with, what do you Guys recommend?

Gave the cabin some work and love today. Took the seats out etc and hoovered it. Found some mouse poop, tiny fragments of broken glass (some glass was smashed at at certain time no doubt), a broken pencil - fun times!

Great to see where the engine sits, how long is the wheel  base and the seating position of the driver - a truly well though out design just longing for some upgrades  >:D

Today Ive continued to remove stuff, front licence plate, tools, spare tire, stickers... Also tried to lift the care and put it on jack stands to have a good look underneath but no luck as my lift can only do 35 cm and my stands start at that height. Need to upgrade my jack.

On the parts side Ive messaged boys from SJ via facebook and got a reply from Matt from Rogue motorsport. Also Ive found a potential donor car in Ireland. At the moment not willing to spend funds on that now but keeping that option in mind.

Taking everything into consideration Ill probably go down Kswap route by the looks of it, K24. Ill keep you posted, things should play fairly soon.

Only decision I have now is weather I go with the complete build during this autumn/ winter or, a more probable one, Ill break the build into two phases. First being body, suspension, chasis/ bracing, breaks work and then in the following year engine/box/LSD.
This should put less stress under these covid19 circumstances on my budget but these things are never driven by logic but by heart/impulse so everything is possible.

Whatever it may be Ill keep you regularly updated.

I had the same problem. I use a block of wood having cut a suitable recess to locate it on the jack head. The remaining thickness of the block raises the lift height by that amount.
PS
This is a close call as you need to maintain clearance to get the jack under the lifting point .
Alternatively you can drive the wheels onto two long boards or four shorter boards to raise the car height.

Ive just bought a new pro jack, can lift up to 50 cm now with ease.

Ill post more images when I get around my laptop as Im on holiday atm and using mobile phone.

last few weeks in pictures

K24 swap is in preparation, meeting my mechanic this week and budgeting/ choosing options. Still not 100% sure Ill go thru with it this winter but who knows, Ive done worst in the past :D

What is most definitely sure is that Ill be ASAP refreshing my whole suspension with stock parts + tein + KBY + sway bars as this it the bare minimum, engine/ box LSD is optional as it is.

Oh and a few quick Qs:

1. - what is the best way to close the body gap/ hole after I delete the antenna?
2.- how to take the inherited TTE back spoiler? There is a hole underneath but I cant get my wrench in it to unscrew the screw. Weird...

I believe @Snelbaard is working on / has produced something to do this.

I do have some of these still available yes, only the covers are black. So if you want yours in a different colour, you'll have to paint it.

Was busy over the weekend, took +1 kg sand/ dirt out of the car that was sitting beneath back wheel arches. Also a huge rock, unbelievable!

Weighted all the parts Ive took out so far, 26kg total.

Will post some pics later.

Im looking into replecing my stock battery with a lighter version. Was thinking to get a gel motorcycle one and use a strap to tighten it down. Any best buy recommendations?
Was reading about LiFePO4 but they seem to be expensive.

Have used this sort of thing in various MX5s in the past with good success: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YUASA-REC22-12-12V-22Ah-GOLF-TROLLEY-BATTERY-18-Holes-MOCAD-FRASER-HILLBILLY/111603384404

Unsure how it'd cope with a higher compression engine though...

FredyCro

Ill probably go with this one, a friend of mine has it on his k24 engine works without any issues and its 5.2 kg for a great price too.

Im getting a package from Boris soon, bracing etc.:)

Will probably go with meisterr zeta crd coilovers, got some discount and reviews are generally good for my intended use. Any first hand experiences?

As soon as I get some PC time Ill upload some photos.

Anbody riding on koni sports inserts + eibach or tein springs? Impressions please.
I still dont have access to parts ada on the forum, is there anbody selling this setup used perhaps?

Ill probably go with that setup as I can get TUV, Type approval needed for homologation purposes.

Was looking into coilovers such as meisterr but that can not provide TUV, Type so not an option at the moment.

Im Ill install the new lighter battery and if I find time perhaps take out soft top too, pics to follow
