2zz VVT Tuning

VVT tuning for boosted applications particularly 2zz turbo. This thread is aimed to talk around VVT tuning as in cam angle tables.

Before I get going on this I'm not asking people to share their tunes they've paid for or for any of the professional tuners on here to give away knowledge people should be paying for.

I'm purely wanting to discuss with other people who tune their own cars, what they've found to work whether that be on a Dyno or road.

For me I find that having a large amount of advance really helps spool up and creates what feels like the most power and torque.

I've then experimented with bringing it down sharply to at the transition of the two cams, then tailing off to no advance by redline.

Granted this is only going of butt Dyno and in doing so isn't an exact science, but I seem have to have found a spot where it doesn't feel like I have the 'dip' at cross over and pulls hard to red line.

The low-mid range is significantly better with max advance I've found.

So I seem to have settled for the time being on where I like the VVT. Plenty of advance to build boost, tapered down for cross over and slight build afterwards then tapered down to no advance by redline. Seems to give a smoother transition to lift and still let's it sing to the Redline. Tried a few different combinations last night for a few hours (4 hours) from the factory settings and everything in-between.  Think I'll leave it where it is now, until some Dyno time.

Out of interest, are you using a wideband O2 sensor?

Do you see much AFR variance when only adjusting advance/retard?

Can vary by upto 0.5 lamda.

I use it as a guide so if I'm leaning out I'm flowing more air
