if I can, Yes. Lots of things changed in last year or so, my life is in constant turmoil. This car makes me happy, its my happy mobile. If I sell it Ill for sure get a new one once I settle and create a pure track car.

Does anyone knows how much can safely 1zz cylinder head can be trimmed? Ill probably do a small scale engine rebuild to freshen it up and would like to know this to get the right info to the machine shop.

Anybody did a crankshaft lightening, balancing (knife edging) on 1zz? I can do it fairly affordable at a great quality, stock is heavy.  And cons?

Any engine pulleys that are safe/ recommended to be made out of aluminum?

Ill probably go to force induction (SC most likely) if I dont sell the car or do some other swap - this is the prep work that needs to be done and why not do this while engine is down and being disassembled.

Thank you!

Stunning looking car, just a point I have the sc car that Carolynne built, it is roughly 185-190 bhp using the  M45 Eaton sc ex mini-cooper s with a 'lengthy' belt, shorter belts can yield even more power(not an option or avenue I will consider).

You are discussing skimming + lightening for marginal benefits(with some risk of over-doing it) to gain how much bhp? Whatever the # is, it pales into insignificance if you do go down the sc route. Maybe as Carolynne did, refreshing the engine internals would be the advisable option eg new pistons + honing?

In a few weeks time car is going for an upgrade, just took my old cylinder head to the shop for headwork today. Besides that we will change piston rings etc. All of this should give me a small increase in power plus a piece of mind. After that plan is to sort out the exhaust, complete new components from headers on. Beyond that ecumaster det3 probably.

If I decide to do a pulley from aluminium it will be sort of a side thing.

SC - amybody knows of any good kits or can build one to order?

And constant hunt to lightened the car without making it look modified in on :) If I opt for a single bucketseat with a hard top down Ill be below 900 kg for sure as it stands now. That with a healthy amd slightly upgraded engine should do me fine :)

Lightning the things that go high revs is véry worthwhile. It is all about moment of inertia; MR2. It does not produce any more hp but it sure frees the up.
A lighter flywheel lighter pullies, gearing down the alternator are very effective as it is power not spent on accellerating/decellerating internal mass. The order of it you can relate to the wheels times the overall reduction of the gear you are in.
A sc will ádd a considerable rotating mass. It adds a case of the dog chasing it´s tail.
That observed a sc is imo the most effective way to get to the level of power you mention and I would LÓVE one on mine, but you see it needs to also compensate it´s own inertia?

Toyota themselves btw., made plenty of use of superchargers in the eighties/nineties. In the MR2 they used the SC12 which they also fitted to the Levin. In the Previa they bolted the SC14. The latter gave 170-180 hp. and would probably the best for the ZZW30 because it would operate at nicely low revs, generating less heat/losses. Imo Toyota would have gone this way like the did on the Corolla T-Sport which they gave an Ogura TX-12.
The 12 or 14, line the 300 or 500 on the Aisins, is a metric value for the swept volume per revolution.
The 12 being 1200 cc. and the 300 being 300 cc.
Eaton is in cubic thumbs of feet and the Eaton62 sweeps 1 metric litre, 1000 cc, per rev. so that would be an SC10.

Here the AW11 install

Had a spare head, gave it for a bit of a nip n tuck. Will put it in eventually, hopefully with som exhaust ECU work afterwards

Not such a popular thing to do in recent times, a de coke, valve seating and some porting work was the way to go at one time. With more alloy heads nowadays, improved OE design and production, likely less need but I would think such work on what now must be an old head, must be for the good.

Car has been sold, best of luck to the new owner with his upgrade plans. Should be interesting if he executes them
