I do actually have a set of FL and PFL rims but both need new tyres and the PFLs need a refurb.

I will be making a few small changes to the mudguards and will get the arch roller out again!

I wonder if I need stiffer springs than the teins but wont be rushing into anything.

You need much stiffer springs imho.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I needed height adjustability because of the extra weight. Stock shockers and springs had me down by the stern.

The jury is still out for me!

This set up is still firm over bumps but with more bodyroll so not particularly more comfortable and it will take some getting used to.

But who knows, the coilovers may yet go back but they had to come off anyway for 2 of the studs to be replaced due to damaged threads.

My ET35 wheels with 195/225 are not helping with the body movement either!

@Topdownman how do you find the V6 to live with?

There is one for sale online at the moment (not black with yellow accents) and I'm considering spending hours driving to the other side of the country to see it?

Does the car still handle well with the torque on tap like that?

I would be 'dailying' it for 20miles a day and maybe two or 5 three track days a year.

I have seen most conversion threads on here seem to include a reasonable amount of hiccups.

Would appreciate your views.

The driving of the car is fine and no problems with the extra weight or torque. The car doesnt handle any different to me. If anything, the torque makes it easier for daily driving. I have pulled off in third gear without realising it before now! Fuel economy has not been an issue as you tend to drive it using the torque rather than revving it like you would in a standard car to make progress.

Having a V6 conversion done now would be very expensive so if you can get one already done then its a great way to start. Having said that, any conversion as invasive as this can cause unforeseen issues and problems and is never going to be as easy as owning a more standard car. Trying to find parts can be a problem as you dont always know what parts you have on the car (eg I dont know which car my starter motor came from) and if you have a camry engine, they werent popular over here so its hard to find parts for them now. It can be hard to find someone to work on the car too given that many garages dont even like standard MR2s, let alone frankenstein ones!

If you want a daily driver, I would suggest a better way would be to have a small, but high torque turbo conversion. If I was doing it again, thats the route I would be going.

Going to look at the V6 though is also worth doing, they are great fun to drive!

Thank you @Topdownman, I will consider my path carefully. The torque and noise does sound ever so appealing.

I wouldn't dream of having a V6 as a daily.
It doesn't get anywhere near the 1zz for fuel economy.
As a fun weekend car if its running correctly it beats 1zz 2zz or turbo for thrills.
Dear God having 210 ftlbs of torque in a tiny car really is fun.
And mine had closer to 300. 😆

I did a lot of work on Scotte's V6 to get it to run reliably (a 'Woodsport' conversion I believe).  A test drive on a slightly damp road cured me of any interest in doing one. Mind you that WAS a V6 with a Rotrex supercharger on it.

I've seen a couple up close and the workmanship of the people who did the conversions was, to say the least, poor.

I run a standard 1ZZ and I'm very happy with it. Mind you, the supercharged one we created, is a very entertaining drive.

The bottom end 'grunt' of a screw type supercharger is hard to beat.

Yours supercharger project sounded great. I missed the kit you sold by hours.

Quote from: Topdownman on December 30, 2018, 19:40So, thought I had better do an update as its been a while. I have been very busy this year and not had much time to play with the car. That hasnt stopped me buying stuff so have a number of bits to go on at some stage next year.

I did get lost on my way to the grout shop this morning and ended up in Wales somehow.

One thing I discovered I need to sort out before the next winter top-down run is the heater control knob. I have a set of the mazda style ones but as you need a fair bit of force for the left hand knob for the heater direction, it has rounded off. This means that I cannot change the direction off demist only so cant get any heat on me! Brrrr.

Very nice out there this morning though.

This shot should go in the 2022 Calendar

Yes, given time, the new one will look more and more like the old one. I have now done more mileage in this car than all the previous owners put together (and owned it for longer than them all too I think!).

10 years of ownership of this car by me slipped by last month.

Spent the day detailing it ready for showing it off at the South Wales Car Festival on sunday. I had to do it today because it is apparently going to start raining again tomorrow!

Still scrubs up nicely, not quite as nicely as 10 years ago but hey ho..

(Seems like my new phone wants to get all artistic!).

I love this build, if I wasn't turbo I'd go this route.

The car just seems to have perfect presence on the road.

Just refreshing the car ready for the weekend.

Just waiting for the front underfloor to dry so I can put on a second coat of paint then I can start to put the car back together. I doubt the Judges will look underneath but as I have entered the car into the modified category of the Drivers Club competition on sunday, best do a proper job!

Looks like a proper thick coat of grease on those brake discs. That'll keep the rust off for the show  ;)
