Failed MOT left me stranded

The 2ZZ has just failed on N/S handbrake, wheel bearing and tyres not rotating the correct way.

Wheel bearing was actually a loose hub nut, tyre fail isn't an issue so both of them sorted.

Just the bloody handbrake now. I'm stranded in Trafford Park as you can't (by law) drive, even to a mechanic with a 'serious defect' on the MOT fail >:(

I've now had to book in at a local mechanic and I'll have to risk the 2-mile journey to him, which is much less risk than the 25-mile journey home to undertake the work myself.

I'm pretty sure that if the 'serious defect' has been corrected, you can drive it for re-inspection.

I double checked on that.  So long as the major defect has been repaired, you're cool.

I was taken aback to see handbrake effort logged as a "dangerous" defect when going through the history of my former car. Given the "intricacies" of these MR2 handbrakes, not something where you want to be at the mercy of a specific garage.

Hope you get sorted anyway

Of course, but how do you get it (legally) to the garage for repair and to be corrected. Thats the issue I have.

Yet I can drive for repairs with a loose wheel bearing/loose hub bolt, go figure!

I'd be driving it to get fixed.

The chances of getting pulled over at that exact time are infinitesimally small. Worth the tiny risk IMHO.
