Looking to fit an acrylic window but am a bit miffed by the way the windshield is fitted.
Anyone taken it out? or watched it done??

Many many years ago when I first got the sable I watched the windshield be replaced by a CarGlass guy at my work and it took him about 20 minutes. From what I remember he took the mirror off, basically just ran a knife around the edge, pulled the glass out, cleaned the old clue off with this special scoop scraper, plopped the new glass in, added sealant at a very pace and clipped the new mirror in.

As far as I know it's still in there about 8 years later so he must have done well

The Toyota instructions (with thanks to @Ardent ) are rather more complicated. Involving what they call a ´dam´ in various pieces and fitting ´stoppers´ all topped off by the outer moulding embedded in the adhesive.

Per example:

´3. INSTALL NEW NO. 1 STOPPERS
Attach new stoppers to the glass so that the ceramic notches
on the glass will align with the stoppers as shown in the illustration.
HINT:
Make sure that the stoppers are installed facing the correct
direction.
4. INSTALL NEW DAMS
Install new dams with double–stick tape as shown in the illustration.´

and

´(d) Install a new windshield moulding to the windshield glass
before the adhesive agent hardens.
Install the moulding, aligning the center of moulding with the
center of the body.
(e) Remove any excessive adhesive agent before it hardens.
(f) Hold the glass and moulding in place securely with a protective tape or equivalent until the adhesive hardens.¨

I think I best contact the mobile fitting service about it befóre I have the plastic pane made: looks like I will need to cut the top bit of the moulding off for plexiglass guys to even séé the outer edge 

I suspéct that the after market service simply cuts the moulding and goos the windo in place without it.
Can you have a look and/or provide a photo of thos detail @MrChris ?
If so I can DIY it. If the Toyota fitting kit is to be used, I will need to use the pros.

You mention getting the edging strips back in. How do you get them out? The MR2 one seems properly embedded in the goo.
