i take it you now have a post facelift 2, in which case there are no ways of doing this from the head unit, your only options are to put in a switch to stop it from going up or to replace the head unit with one that does have this function

Yeh but my old 2 was a pre facelift and it never done this??    s:( :( s:(   The old one had a standard toyota sony headunit, and this one has a removeable face and the cd player unit, directly under it.  Would this have n e thing to do with it? being a diff headunit; not having the same function?

different head unit = different capabilities / behaviour, so YES

yep, thats not a stock head unit(H/U) so we can only guess as to the functions of it. There are no UK spec stock H/U's with a removable face. The aerial only does what its told, your best bet for money is to rewire the aerial signal to the pax window disable switch, it'll cost you the sum total of a piece of wire, some splices and your time

I've emailed MrT's Customer Relations department to get them to ask Technical Services (I'm not paying prime rate telephone charges)

If they come back with zilch I have a better idea for a control switch. It's a pity I can't understand even the simplist of wiring diagrams  s:!: :!: s:!:

Email back from MrT

Thank you for your email dated 9 August 2006.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to retract the aerial if the audio unit is in use.  I am sorry for any disappointment this may cause.
I would recommend that you refer your vehicle to your local Toyota Centre to enable them to investigate whether the aerial can be adjusted to reduce the wind noise you are experiencing.

Now to plan B
I have pulled out the stupid coin holder to the right of the alarm LED and taken it to the local H*****ds. Unfortunately the switches they sell are too small, so it's off tomorrow to a more specialist auto parts retailer. I'm stuffed when I find the right component because I couldn't understand a wiring diagram to save my life  s:!: :!: s:!:

If you don't need to be able to receive very faint radio signals, get yourself a Lord Takuban aerial on the next group buy on Spyderchat.  Easy to install, looks great and you'll never have to hear that giant whippy aerial again.

You should get the "bundle" for $119 shipped to the UK.  At current exchange rates, that's only about £60.

I had this with my first early 'two' before I put an inline switch in the power feed to the antenna

was in the car wash (yes I know its a sin!) playing a cd and a traffic broadcast came on, and up went the aerial   s:shock:  s:shock:

came out of the car wash and the aerial was hanging down the side of the wing in a sorry state.  so I decided it pull the broken aerial off...........26 stitches and half a pint of blood later I realised the coax cable was strong stuff and pulling on a jagged aerial isnt a good idea!!   s:shock:  s:shock:    s:? :? s:?

You don't actually "need" LT's aerial. What you will need though is to replace the electric aerial with the static mast and plastic trim holder. Part numbers are on LT's SC thread and cost about £37 (IIRC) from MrT.

You can then put in any  aerial that has the same thread. Don't buy it until you have the new mast in your hands - they can be very different!

I have LT's aerial, and TBH reception can be very spasmodic depending on how close you are to transmitters. Definitely not as good as the OEM tall one.
