16s are better,

17s will give wider tyre choice

profile depends on the width you go for

I'd probably go 205/45/16 and 225/40/16 T1Rs if it were me

TRD recommends these with the Sportivo:
High grip 205/45/16 & 215/45/16 tyres
Low weight 16x7", ET45 wheels
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

215/45x16 are standard fitment on the facelift model.. so would be the best option for the rear..  and 205/45x16's would be my choice on the front.

If you went for 17"...

205/40x17 front and 215/40x17 rear... width of rim either 7j or 7.5j

im looking to order up wheels myself and was considering this combo for extra grip since i run a hass stage 2

I had 16 front 17 rear on mine. It was good, felt much more planted than stock but didn't ruin the ride and there were no problems with catching the arches no matter how bad the roads were.

If anyone wants anymore info. let me know.

Thanks Deacon.

What size of tyres did u use on that setup? theres soo many variations, then i want to avoid rubbing too. i was thinking 215 at back and 195/205 at front. Any1 else have any recommendations?

cheers

I had 195's on the front on a 16x7 rim and 215's on the rear on a 17x7.5 rim.

sounds good.... thats the same recomendation i got from a rota rims supplier on ebay..........

did u have any understeer having more traction at back and less at front? did it feel more stable etc?

Deacon

#13
It felt a lot better than stock much more stable and composed but I wasn't sure how much was due to the Toyo's rather than anything else.

Take a look at the SP12 option using 205/40 17 front and 245/35 17 rear.  Our car got an EVO Mag 5-star rating riding on them  s:D :D s:D

I'm not sure what you mean.. but  215/45x16 and 185/55x15 are standard sizes on post 03 models.. which is why i stated that as best option for rears on 16".

Personally i'm running 215/40x17 rear and 205/40 17 front... but I found the front end way too unstable above 80mph.. lowering the front with the Tien springs solved the problem and made the front end more planted on the road. ( I think the drop on the ftont with Tiens 33mm)

I think what he meant was 215/45R16s are probably the best OE option but not when you already have 205/45R16s up front. Dats what i tot he meant when i read the posts all in one sequence anyway.

Anyhow..... i am going to use 205/40R17 fronts. But i really dun wan that unstable or the 'rear-losing-its-grip-under-hard-braking or cornering' possibility happening. Not that i am saying it will happen, but many seem to recommend at least a +20mm staggered differences in the tyre widths. This means the rear has to be at least 225/35R17s, which may be a difficult size to find.

Thing is.... stock has a +30mm staggered difference. Do you think bringing it down to a +10mm staggered difference would be detrimental or even risky in terms of maintaining the car's stability and control in high speeds or adverse situations?

I am having difficulty getting past this mental barrier of having just 215/40R17s on the rear with a mere +10mm staggered difference. Can anyone shed more light on this?

225/35/17 would indeed be the best choice, provided you can find them (I checked, Toyo doesn't make them)
I would indeed advise, if you do some quick driving regularly, to keep a stagger of at least 20 mm; that's the way Toyota designed this car and so it should work best.
I assume you want to upgrade to 17's for cosmetic reasons? Otherwise, for optimal performance, you're better off with lightweight 16" rims, 205/45/16 F, 225/40/16 R.

Ok looks like I came to this topic late but I'll tell you what I know.

Just purchased some 16x7's for my 2 and they are wearing 205/45ZR16's and 225/40ZR16's. Took me ages to decide on tyres as there isn't a great selection in 16's. (Got Toyo's but rears were special order)

I would say that you aught to have a look at  m http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html m  for a huge amount of information on tyres and wheels.

It says that the widest you should put on a 6.5" rim is a 195 but I would say you would be ok with 205. 215's maybe for the rear if you can find someone who sells them.

Also small note that 205 on the front is a squeeze if the car is lowered. Have pic to show how close this is. will post if needed.

Hope this helps

I'd say go for 16 inches and 7" for the width

i researched for myself on this topic for along time, by going through the search on here and on SC and it seems this size is most favourable selection among alot of 2 owners

also consider weight aswell but this could effect the wallet!!!

ive just put the deposit on some buddy clubs after a good 6 months of consideration

i decided that the best tyre choice would be

205/45/16 front
225/40/16 rear

and my tire choice will be Dunlop's, they semm to get a good write up but then again there doesnt seem to be many people using them?!

hope my input has helped   s:? :? s:?

those are the ones!!  s:) :) s:)

think Philster is the only member using them though? and not that many more on SC
