Problem Fitting My New Seats

I've done a search but couldn't find an answer to my problem....

I just got a set of Konig seats for my car.. got the runners etc too and fitted them to the new seats. Went out tonight to fit one of them in the car and came into a few problems (some of which i think i found answers to)

1. The seatbelts... When the new seat is in position it looks like it is going to be a mission to fasten it as there is nowhere on the seat to bolt the clasp to (took the clasp of the original seat) the only place I can think of mounting it is  in the same place that the actuall runner bolts to the floor, this has given me 2 problems.. 1, I will need longer bolts to bolt the runner to the car and 2, I will need a seat belt extension of some sort so it is easier to fasten the belt

Any ideas on this one?

2. I think I found the answer to this one, but since i'm here i will make sure... the seatbelt warning lights and bleepers.. from what i gather I just don't connect the wires from the floor to the new seat (with the original clasp) and no warning lights or bleepers will be there?

3. If I cant sort out the above...I was thinking of getting harnesses, but 2 things are putting me off... 1, I don't have a roll bar and don't really want to cut into the plastic to find a moiunting point.. so, can i use the bolts that mount the seats to the floor of the car for mounting a harness too? and after reading on here.. 2, are harness legal for the MOT or would I still need to find a way to fit the original belts.

My 3rd problem is... it has been snowing today, so obviously the drive (gravel) was soaking wet,  upon kneeling down to fit the seat I missed the piece of cardboard i put down and my the knees of my trousers are soaking wet, I am freezing cold and a bit ****** off with it now.    s:roll:  s:roll:

All in all I would appreciate any advice you people can give me, I am a little dissapointed that things weren't as straight forward as I hoped they would be..

Here is a piccy of mynew seats... just hope that at the end of the day I can get them in ok.

for the bleeper and light, just leave it disconnected, and no it doesn't effect the airbag before someone says, the seatpan switch is NO and the seatbelt switch is NC so if you leave it disconnected its the same as being in the seat with the seatbelt on.

secondly, Harness's, i've got them and yes there is the bit about what if it rolls, 2 thoughts on that, one goes that if you roll then you could duck and be safe, then theres the other that i maintain that says thats bollox, you wont be able to duck, G-forces, shock and other forces will stop concious thought from makeing you duck, not to mention the seatbelt pretensioners that work on accelerometers rather than impact switches.

i still have the stock seatbelts for MOT purposes, but i use the harness's normally. The shoulder harness's attach to a set of David's bars welded to make a one piece bar on mine, but a welded in bar will be secure enough providing its mounted to the hardtop points securely, in an accident your looking at stopping around 2.5tons on average, after that your toast anyway, so it has to be very secure

Thanks for the info guys.. the tumble drier worked a treat and the cuppa coco and morgans was... errr.. hmm... well, different.

Kanujunkie, thanks for confirming about the warning bleepers.

I emailed car builder solutions but that was a bit fruitless as they were unable to help me with regards the seat belt clasp.. so, does anyone know if the original clasp is strong enough to take a weld?.. I could get someone to weld on a metal extension to it then it would be long enough to mount to the floor while still having access to the clasp to fasten the belt in, the downside of this is that the bolt that holds the seat in would be too short, so hopefully I could go into an Iron Monger and get some longer bolts that would do the job.

providing its tig welded through as much of the metal as possible then it should be ok, but i'd be asking someone like a Civil Aviation Authority licenced welder, not your local garage welder

It won't be a garage welder.. It will be someone with 30 years experiance working with all types of metal from stainless steel to wrought iron. he is a blacksmith... if he doesn't know what he is doing, no-one will.

true, just do the calculations though on the sheers forces in play in an accident before you go ahead

no offence to your blacksmith either but how many blacksmiths do tig welding and can do NDT on the welds after to ensure a quality weld, 30yrs or not, its a specialised job and your putting your life on it

I managed to get the seats fitted today.. seatbelts are fine too.. i used the original clasp in the end and although a bit tight, they fasten up without too much trouble.

I will take a piccy tomorrow and post it up here.

Yep.. seats are fully reclyn.... reclin... reclne... they go forward, just have to watch the seatbelt clasp as it is a bit short as it is now mounted to the floor instead of the seat.
