Well heres my reasoning.

Team Moon

Sounds like a Racecar, but in a good way, very nice piece of kit. Downside is it's very simple tip. I'd have had to budget another £100 for tips.

If I'd been in the states I'd have done it however by the time you've shipped to the UK it's very expensive for what it it.

With an exchange rate sitting at nigh on 1.7 it may be worth you double checking this.

Approximately 10lbs less weight than stock

TTE

A quality piece of kit, looks the business, sounds ok, but not a huge improvement over stock sound. 2lbs heavier than Stock. made for TTe by Remus and even stamped so on the silencer. Big benefit is dealer fit and warranty, downside is thats why it's so expensive.

I didn't choose due to price mainly. (If I was paying this price I'd have gone Team Moon)

REMUS

All the pluses and negatives of the TTE (as t's the same unit) except round tips where the TTE is oval. Since you can get this outside the main dealer network it's sizeably cheaper. Try Demon tweeks for currnt pricing. though make sure you specify dual tip as they make a single as well.

I was very close to going this route until I heard the H&S

Magnex

My main reason for not going this route was that the 4" tips were too big for my liking.

H&S

Priced fairly at £400=Vat, it's very good at a GB price of £350+ vat.

I'd say not as race car as the moon, but has a inbetween sound thats deep and throaty like the REMUS can be at certain RPM but more like the moon when you plant it. Grant described it as fruity, which is the best description I've yet heard.

Overall very classy sound, doesn't look like a NOVA boy job, reasonable price, great build quality, and you get to deal with a specialist rather than going for a mass produced jobbie.

Oh and you can choose exactly what tips you want on it as well.

Very comprehensive there Mark!

I've got the TTE and am very happy with it, BUT if the H&S was around back when I bought mine I would have gone for that every time - it's a seriously quality bit of kit, and the option of choosing your own tips is the icing on the (fruity!) cake   s:D :D s:D

I've got the TTE as well.
I think the sound is quite different from stock when under load but you can hardly hear it when you are just cruising.

Besides I got a really good deal on price from the dealership.

Always liked the Postert one myself (but then it was one of the only ones around when i got mine   s:? :? s:?  ), but then its just the Remus (TTE) one with different pipes again, but there all better than a single IMHO, makes the rear look more even   s:) :) s:)

OK, heres how I convinced myself to open my wallet for an exhaust that didnt even exist..

The competition here consists of the TTE/Remus/Postert clones, Team Moon, Magnex,  Janspeed and Hayward & Scott. There are other more exotic Japanese Imports available, but most of them are single exit only.

I've seen and driven the TTE pipe, and even managed to convince a Toyota Dealer to get hold of one for an MR2ROC member back in the days when it was easier to get blood from a stone than buy a TTE. While it sounds good, its still quite restrained for my liking, I didn't like the fact that it cost a bomb in TTE form, (but can be had quite cheaply as a Remus - Toyota mark ups for you  s:roll:  s:roll:  ) and the tips in my opinion look like halfords add ons. Same goes for the Remus tips, except that they look even worse. (just my opinion of course...)

Janspeed list a system for the Mk.3 MR2, but at the time I was researching my exhaust they had zero interest in answering e-mail enquiries. Ive since learned that they were in dire financial straits at the time, and are now trying to re-establish themselves in the tuning world. the may now be worth taking a look at...

Magnex. Every dickhead who thinks spending £10K on a 1.1 Corsa is a good idea puts a magnex on it. And they always, without exception, sound awful. So I didn't even entertain it. They might be quite good, but I didnt look any closer. Magnex owners will be able to give you a better idea of this...

Team Moon. While theres no contesting the performance of the TM, Its major downsides for me were that it was cheaply made, using a Magnaflow universal fit silencer with the correct flanges and tubes welded on. No tips are offered other than straight cut off pipes, so you either put up with ugly or pay extra to have decent tips put on. Add to that the fact that you have to import it from the USA, with the added cost of shipping and taxes, and you have a fairly cheap looking exhaust for a lot of money that you have to fit yourself.

Hayward & Scott. This company is little known outside of serious tuning circles, and they dont often advertise, as they seem to do most of thier business by word of mouth recomendations. Ask around though and you wont hear a tuner say a bad word about them. They are well known in Racing and Rallying, as they supply works teams such as Mitsubishi Ralliart. Ford regularly use them for special jobs, such as the last GT40 chassis that were made up into complete cars a few years ago. Take a look at the workshops as I did, and you cannot fail to be impressed by the care and skill that goes into each fabrication. Some of the items they make are works of art. Having spoken to them and described what I wanted, I got exactly what I asked for. No fuss, No bother, just a 100% hand made (even the silencer box is rolled and tig welded completely by hand) exhaust fabricated to my own "fussy bastard" specifications. The bonus of course is that it can be tailored to meet your own specs a well as just about any tip you can imagine can be supplied with it.

Seems to be the case these days as well, still no reply from them...

What price did you get it for as most dealers only offer 10% off?

Thanks for the intensive feedback everyone. I am really heading towards the H&S mainly due to the overwhelming recommendations, quality, price and build flexibility.   s:lol:  s:lol:

Silly question, but what kind of guarantee do you get with these exhausts?...

Not sure about the H&S (although I expect it will be pretty good), but the TTE is 3 years.

Over here TTE has 3 years warranty only if installed by a dealer. If you install it yourself, it has only 1 year warranty.

Janspeed has a lifetime warranty.

Well you missed a treat    s:D :D s:D

I also went through the "TTE is harder to find than attractive virgins" route back in January 2002. This forced me to look for alternatives & at the time there wasn't a massive choice of twin exit pipes. I researched the Magnex & was impressed by the quality, price & the lifetime owners guarentee (as long as you get it checked & your book stamped every year). In the last 1 1/2 years I have been happy with the exhaust, no problems at all & enjoy the slight burbling sound but do not find it loud or annoying. A few of the guys on here heard it at JAE 2002 & at the Doncaster meet we had & there were no complaints there either. All in all a good option for those requiring larger exit pipes.

This does show the size of exit pipe very well.      s:D :D s:D

Has I said in another thread, just buy the TTE dual exhaust from Lampka Motorsport for 564€ shipped(in Belgium)!  Excellent quality for exhaust and Lampka services!

How does the right tips on H&S is fix?  Do you know why the muffler is in that position?

I was a little dissapointed with the TTE system when I first had a go in one.  However I still ordered one as i wans't prepared to wait for a team moon, and with a new car i also need the warranty.  Anyways I had a blitz induction kit put on as well, and it really 'frees' the sound on the TTE.  Now mines run in and i take it up to the limiter it's sounds almost like a big motorbike at full chat   s:shock:  s:shock:  , whilst still being relatively quiet when on motorway! perfect!   s:D :D s:D
