205/50/15 or 205/55/15 tyres on the rear

I've looked at the tyre reviews page of MR2ROC, and most of the posts about tyres on the forums, but nobody has brought this up yet (as far as I can tell).

The stock sizes on the rear of a pre-facelift '2 are 205/50/15, and the fronts are 185/55/15. Surely this means that the rear radius is actually smaller than the front?

I've noticed that in the tyre reviews page that 205/55/15s are quoted as OEM sizes, but I don't think that's the case as most people seem to be buying 205/50/15 (this is from looking at the forum posts, not the tyre reviews.)

I am in desperate need of new tyres now, mine are probably illegal and as I've already got 9 points for speeding, i would like to keep my license if I get spot checked, but I don't know what size to buy.

Please help.

Cheers

Why did they call it a "Midship Runabout"?!?! Surely "Mid-Engine Roadster" would have sounded better.

the 50 or 55 is a percentage figure not an absolute value

Oh yes, you're quite right, that would make the rears 1.5mm larger in diameter using 50s, cheers for clearing that up.
