Well I have got a J spec 6 speed.

It has just been delivered so I got a few friends to help lift it onto the truck.

I dont think its LSD, they said LSD at first then they said not sure.

Is there any external LSD stamp I could look for ?

Aaron did say in another post they should be interchangeable.

Mark you were going to list the extra bits you need to order to do this job, what are they ?

you'll need a new thrust bearing as well Phil, good find on the J-spec 6 though, you may want to get the LSD swapped over though as its a bit interesting without one.

now if anyone says that if you cant see through the driveshaft attachment hole then it does have an LSD is speaking crap. Mine doesn't have one and you cant see through it, pretty much the only way to definitively tell is to either install it and run it or take it to pieces and physically check it.

btw how many miles are on your clutch?

just need that bearing then, Mark has some spare bolts if they have to be forceibly removed. there are 2 bolts on the rear of the gearbox that seemed to be heat welded in and we destroyed one on Marks box, so he has spares

pure guesswork but it'll probably cost a couple of hundred quid.

by the way your going to love it after the rain at this time of the year, first gear is about as much use as a chocolate teapot, just wheelspins, 2nd aint much better and if you did leave the box without any form of lsd the torque steer is diabolical in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, starts dissapearing in 4th  s:? :? s:?

only way i know on how to do that 100% is to split the box or fit it and do some test runs, the latter though will really bugger you up when you find it doesn't have one and it has to be removed and modified.

btw how do you know its a 6spd jspec box?

because thats what I brought?

is there any markings?

I still need to rescue it, someone did more damage to the truck so I lost that now too.  s:( :( s:(

I can only see the cost of this escalating at the moment.

only reason i ask is i know how bigger liars the scrappy trade can be and if you ask for a Jspec box then they may just tell you what you wanted to hear.

As far as i'm aware theres no markings on it, certainly wasn't on my 6peed or Marks 5

and as for the cost, just think what itwould cost at Mr.T's, box is circa £1800 alone

interesting observation following Saturdays track day

Grant once said to me that teh 6 speed box wasn't as nice to drive as teh 5speed

now on teh road I'm happy enough, however on track one minor issue became eveident.

when pushing it, and going from 3rd to 2nd, with teh 5 speed, you can simply slam the lever over against teh left hand gate and pull back. straight into second.

with teh 6th you can't, you have to tickle it, otherwise you hit teh gate over by reverse and find teh stick won't go back.

subsequently I buggered up 30% of my fast 3rd to 2nd shifts on teh day

the 5 speed is much better when pushing hard.

My 6 speed is the same , especially with the short shifter. The 5 speed felt much nicer in my opinion as well.
