Air induction kits

I have seen the previous thread about air induction kits, but it was locked before I got a chance to butt in, ie what is the advantage of fitting one? I presume that it will sound more sporty, but does it actually have any benefit? Is there a "best one" to get?  As I do not intend to get another exhaust is there any point in getting an induction kit? Or do I really need to dig deep and get both? If so, what is the perfect combination, and where is the best/cheapest place to get them?
