whining noise when the engine is revved

hi
my mates car has just developed a whining noise when revved over 1500rpm listened through a piece of wood on the alternator bearings sounded ok cant pinpoint where the sound is originating from   s:( :( s:(  

any idea's  s:? :? s:?
