That's the CEL/Check Engine Light, which indicates dozens of issues and you should get the error code read before guessing anything.
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

You need to find someone local who has a code reader. Lots of members have them and there is a list on the forum.
MrT will also read it for you but will charge about £50  s:scared: :scared: s:scared:

If you are in York I think the closest member with a reader is Wabbitkilla (not sure how close that is though)

I have a similar light that comes on (Red) but this seems to go out once the engine is running, is this serious also?

Les as far as I know if the engine light is red then is is VERY Serious and the car should not be driven (mrT told me this). However if the light is not staying on then I'm not sure what the problem is. How long does it take before it goes out?

Are you sure it is the engine light and not the oil light?

There is no red engine light.

Alternator light? Oil pressure light? You really should check your owners manual about these.  s;) ;) s;)
