Oil question

Right, it's for my mk2, but I'm sure y'all will be able to answer it. Bought some 10W40 for it on recommendation, but the bottle says "Suitable for turbo diesel engines" on it - will it be fine? It's part synthetic, which is what I was recommended; surely 10W40 part synth will work with any engine, as I wouldn't have thought you could get many variations of the same grade oil!?

Secondly, it's a brown colour when poured out, but obvs the engine oil is black; am I right in saying that's perfectly normal? Yes, I'm a noob  s;) s;)

It is specified for turbo diesels for a reason, I would try to return it in exchange for something suitable.  Yesterday I saw 5 litres of 5w30 synthetic Havoline, as recommended in your handbook for £13.95 - quite a bargain, they also had 10w40 semi synth a little cheaper.  This was in my local Morrison's petrol station.

If your oil is black it is a good indication it was low quality oil and/or it has been there a long time.  A good synth oil will still be golden after 10K miles!

however diesel oils have more cleaning additives to cope with teh deisel so can be ok in petrol engines

oils for petrol engine should NEVER be used in Diesels though
