Wondered if anyone could swoop in with advice for me. Couple months ago my MR-S started feeling bit lumpy, now its like i havent got any power at all. When i drive it it really coughs and splutters and weh i put my foot down i can't get above 4000 revs. I changed my O2 sensors, spark plugs, air filter, cleaned my MAF, can anyone help me with anything else it could be?? if you do u'll get to call urself HEROES!!!

Thanks!

sounds like the pre-cats have given out I'm afraid  s:( :( s:(  If they have, a new engine and new main cat, with a clean-out of manifold is the fix. Whip the O2 sensors out and inspect the contents of the manifold. If it's empty, the pre-cats have gone.

Hate to sound unsympathetic, but you have been a member for 5 months and must surley know about pre cats/oval bores, signs and symptoms of a fubar engine?

lets not have a go at the bloke, last thing he wants to hear when in this situation i'd imagine   s:? :? s:?   OP, do some searching for 'precats' and 'oval bore syndrome' and check out the link that Nelix posted and you will hopefully find the answers you need to help get this sorted out.

this is why it's good for people to introduce themselves when they join - one possible suggestion though: I have registered on some other forums where new users are forced to visit the FAQ page first before they can post anything. Others ask you to introduce yourself before they lift the posting restriction. It might scare people off, or it could just ensure that nobody who joins this forum gets through the net and misses the inevitable precat warnings.

If it is th pre cats, and it certainly looks that way, you need a replacement engine AND main cat, as this will be blocked with oil and pre cat debris.
Have you checked your oil yet?

well my oil seems just below full.

Do you have an o2 sensor socket? If so remove the o2 sensors and shine a torch into the manifold and check the pre cats.

As the guys have mentioned, have a good look for the precat matrix at the weekend. If you're handy with a spanner, drop the Cat off too and look in from underneath.

You say your oil level is OK, but have you been losing and using oil?

No engine light showing after start-up?

Anyhoo, check out for the bad stuff first and report back. If you can rule that out, then that's the time to start looking into other things until we get to the root cause.

If it is not using oil there is hope yet. Maybe a coilpack or two playing up? Some sort of ECU hiccup? Hope it is not the precats and even if it is, if the engine does not have an oil consumption issue, maybe just a replacement main cad and gut the stock manifold may be all it takes. Here's hoping.

Well, i've got my O2's out and taken off my heat plates, and have my manifold exposed like a cheap hooker. Looking in the holes, my mesh is still there, and from what i can see looks ok from this end. Been trying to take it further, but them nuts are BAKED on with the fire of a million suns, so it's not going well. Any advice?

Cheers

Carribdis Has you car shown a CEL yet? Thats the yellow engine light on the dash that will stay on permently, if you have you need that code read to give you the fault code. Is your car a UK Spec?  I am only 10 mins or so away and I have a code reader, what ever you do dont take it to the local Mr T that will cost you £50 for just mentioning you have a fault. Let me know if u need help?

It's a Jap import. I had a light a while back, i took it to Westfield for a read, can't remember the exact code, but was a dodgy O2 sensor, which i replaced, and seemed to sort itself. Haven't had a light recently though.

Thanks for the offer though man, really appreciated.

Weird one this, precats ok, (phew!) no oil usuage, yet loss of power.
Worth a maf clean and ecu reset, won't do any harm.

Ok, wondered if perhaps it had already had a replcement engine, but not main cat which is still blocked?
Unlikely though as it is obviously not a new manifold and precats as you had so much hassle getting it off.
