Gents,

Im thinking of changing my stereo soon as the volume button isnt working properly.
I have a 2001 mr2 with two single units in, a radio with tape deck and on top sits a 6 cd changer unit. Both units came with the car and i believe the car came from the continent.

Ive searched the site looking for a similar unit but not had much success.

Few question:

1: will the facia unit off ebay work in my car? (i assume this is for the facelift version?)

 m http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUTOLEADS-Toyota- ... 32ffec16b8 m

or will this one work??

 m http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOYOTA-MR2-Spyder ... 32ffec16b8 m

2: when I remove the radio and replace it, will the ariel still go up and down when turning the radio on and off?? is there any modding required to make it work?

3: Will i need any additional wiring to convert the existing wiring to fit into a new sindle din unit?

4: Will a double din unit fit in the car?

Sorry to bombard with the questions, its just i have no experience in chaging over the radios in cars...

Cheers!

Hello again....

I think ive realised now you can fit a double din stereo in (correct me if im wrong)

But if i was to fit a double din in the car, all i would need would be these??

Guys! Ive just checked my stereo and it already has those side trims. Both units are standard din sizes! They are a toyota standard stereo from the continent thats why i have had no luck in finding info about them. From this i am fairly confident that i dont need any trims to fit around like most mr2 owners need when changing them over.

The only question that still lies is will the aerial go up and down when i fit the new unit in...??

This is exactly as I found. I was able to fit a double din using the brackets what were already there from the stock Sony unit. All I needed was an ISO converter cable. The electric ariel will still work with a new unit.

that's the one.

I got mine from:

http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Car_Stereo_fitting_kits/toyota.htm

Oh, and I forgot you'll need an ariel signal cable adapter too. I had to splice mine  s:( :( s:(

http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Car_Stereo_fitting_kits/antenna_adaptors.htm

I think you'll want the PC5-28 or the PC5-25 assuming your new head unit requires a DIN connection.

Just to let you know its all working like a dream now! I did need the iso lead after all.
Removing the paneling was a nightmare though. I knew what i had to do, but doing it was another issue!
was trying to find out how to remove the side plastic dimpled trim for ages.... anyway its done now!

Cheers all
