Which wheels?

Think i've finally decided i want to get some smaller wheels on the 2.

The 17's are fine but after driving Tom's V6 with the facelift standard wheel set up i realised what i was missing out on. I really fancy some smaller wheels with a bit more tyre side wall.

Think 16's will be the best balance of looks and unsprung weight.

Any suggestions of particularly light wheels in that size? Will be looking at 205/225 or 235 tyres (yep, grip is my new thing) for them so width will be a factor in my choice.

I like OZ Superleggeras, or chunky looking wheels but weight is the biggest thing. So hit me with your suggestions please. Where to buy them too if you know. Tar.

Lovely lookin wheel that ^ ^ ^     BUT, for me, it's team dynamics all the way. Either Pro Race 1.2 for multispoke, or Pro Race 2 for 5-spoke.

As I recently posted on here - mine have gone thru several years of severe abuse, with potholes causing havoc to a couple of tyre sidewalls, yet the alloy remaining 100% perfect.

Strong as anything, also backed up by Jim-SR's roundup in this thread  m http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/showth ... ics-inside m )...

So yeah, strong as you get, and almost as light as the pro alternatives, but a fraction of the price.

Win hands down in my opinion  s:) :) s:)

(As a final team dynamics anecdote - in morrisons car park once an old lady in a drove straight into my car side on (whilst I was waiting for someone to pull out of a car park space) made full contact with the rear wheel and used it to rotate the car through 90 degree's! The car was unscathed, full contact with wheel only.... yet no damage at all to wheel, not even a scratch to the powder coated finish!   To this day all 4 still run as true as the day they left the factory, have watched them from every angle on the wheel balancer meccy's and they're definitely spot on still)  s:crazyeyes:  s:crazyeyes:

Great but how light are they?

7.4kg for the 7.0 x 16's Pro 1.2's.

TE37's are about 5.4kg's.

Difference in price is rather much more though   s:lol:  s:lol:

If you go for the SP12 version, pretty near stock 16s apparently.

Not a big fan of the SP wheels, check out the compomotive range, they can build them to spec, so open up offsets and widths.

Good offset for the front, just buy a pair of rears in 16

Whether I'm a fan of a certain wheel or not is irrelevant. Just trying to stick to the topic and provide info, so Ollie can make his own judgement. Wheels , like most other mods will always be subjective.
Compomotive stuff is very good indeed.

In the twobrutal thread above, the team dynamics 1.2's in 16 x 7" weighed in at around 5.8kg +/-0.2kg (without tyres).
Never weighed my 16" pro race 2's - but when both wheels are tyre'd up they 'feel' similar to the stock MR2 wheels in terms of weight (a useless estimation I know  s:lol:  s:lol: ).

Gotta say the calibre of wheels being suggested is ace   s:) :) s:)   every suggestion fits the bill and I'd happily have a set of any of the wheels mentioned so far!   s8) 8) s8)

As you're now heading in the right direction, why not go for the standard wheels. They look pretty light.

Not keen on the 16 rear, 15 front.

16's is the best balance all round for looks and handling, that's why i want them light though.

I quite like the OZ Ultraleggera's, plus they're Magnesium so should be light.

Worth a thought?

As with the SL's, they do look very light.

I'd be scared of buckling them though, how do they stay round?   s:lol:  s:lol:

Not magnesium, just like most aluminium alloys, magnesium is an ingredient - "Al Si 7 Mg".

RP-F1s are 6.1 and 6.8kg for 7x16 and 8x16 respectively - cheapest from the US.

They really are very friggin light lol. Especially for a OEM wheel.
Only downside is the rampant corrosion! Maybe a good powder coatin could sort that though.
