Hi All

My Power steering pump went last week, AA guy hit it with a hammer and worked for about 30mins driving then turned off again.
Had a mechanic look at it, couldn't get it going. Auto electrician checked relay and said it's OK and that it's my pump. Just missed a breaker one on ebay today for £99, Tch! Seen the high prices quoted here for new and how rare they can be.
Not worked on cars before but seen this and thought looked easy enough, I'm game to try.

Do you think this would work temporarily till I get one, and is it as easy as it looks? I'm still driving it, just needs a bit of effort.

Also I've got a 00/01 model (Can't bring myself too trade it in), will any years pump fit/work? Can I use a Spyder one from US?

For any other newbies trying this. It was really easy, took around 30mins. I've never worked on a car before.
The instructions on the link were perfect, and easy to follow.
So well worth a go yourself if you need to change it.

The article is interesting as I've always wondered whether the MR2 really needed power steering. The only thing about doing it this way is that you've still got the valve at the base of the steering column in the hydraulic circuit. This is a torque sensing valve, so the harder you push on the steering the further it opens. As the system normally runs at a high pressure I imagine that the valve might still be quite a significant restriction on fluid flow, which would affect the steering feel to some extent. The post below shows how Tem's car was modified to remove the steering pump   l viewtopic.php?f=7&t=28896 l
