Hello ,
After many years of happy SW20 ownership I've taken the plunge and bought a roadster, trouble is I think my heart ruled my head when buying, it appeared to be a lovely car , the vendors seeming very genuine, however after a couple of days I noticed that the ABS was not working, on further investigation I've found the warning lamp has been tampered with ie removed-  now I am seriously annoyed with myself for not noticing its lack of illumination but hey I was excited about getting a new car. So please can anybody tell me what the usual problems are with the ABS system -pump-ecu?? Thanks Bill

I can't offer any advice, but I could go around and break their legs for you if you like?!  s:-D :-D s:-D
I really makes me angry when people pull stuff like that.

short answer is I don't know, but buried in amongst this lot will be some words of wisdom from people who do:

However, before you go down that road, I would seriously consider going back round and demanding they buy the car back (unless you got it very cheap in the first place). My best mate sold a Supra years ago that needed a new steering rack (I think).

The female buyer came back within a fortnight and kicked up a major fuss.

He took the car back.

They may actually be very genuine (and genuinely unaware, if this is how their garage 'fixed' the problem).

I am writing to the vendor now to gauge their response, I'll hold back on the direct action just for the moment. Thanks

The most likely cause is a faulty wheel speed sensor connection, it would be worth checking the wiring to the sensors. Alos make sure your brake lights work. Also possibly read the fault code before contacting the vendor.

Thanks for that, will a faulty sensor actually stop the ABS working?, brakes are all locking up on hard push of the pedal. Any recommendations of garages in Exeter area who know what they are doing with Roadsters?.

Any fault will disable the ABS on the basis that no ABS is better than no braking. I'd take it to a specialist auto electrician, who will have the necessary diagnostic equipment.
