Fuel Filler Cable - Help

I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction with the following problem I have.
I want to remove the fuel filler release cable from the end of the filler cap.
I have removed the splashguard, I have removed the 3 screws that hold the plastic surround.
So what I can see is the cable is attached to a plastic bit that has a small black part that I think works the door release.
I want to remove this cable and part without breaking it.
Can anyone help
