Opinions needed...

Since last night my engine makesa a distinct "whistling" noise.    s:? :? s:?     The closest description I can give is that it sounds a bit like a turbocharger...   (no, I don't have one    s:) s:)   )
At first I thought it was somewhere in the transmission, but then I found out the noise is coming from the engine itself since it is heard in gear, in neutral and with the clutch depressed. It also seems rev-related, becoming louder with more revs.  Engine still pulling ok though, and no oil consuption (so far)

Btw I used the search first, but couldn't find my exact "symptoms"    s:( s:(  

Any comments or ideas would be greatly appreciated...

I would have a check over the vac pipes and the ISV. Look for splits or perished bits.
