I've gone through a similar process very recently.
The sensor was very tight and I could only get it to shift by using an extension bar on my socket wrench. That also took quite a bit of bravery as my other half's sensor on her RAV 4 damaged the thread and a new one could only be fitted by welding it in!

In the end though the fix (not sure how long term) was easy as it just required me to swap the two sensors and the warning light hasn't been on since. I'm sure it's only a matter of time but at least I'm now prepared for the job.
