At last! The rattle that nearly put me in a straight jacket has been cured.

After trying several methods suggested by the forum nothing helped. So I had a severe look under the soft top near my ear. I found a thin metal rod (diameter 2mm) attached to bars - one horizontal and one vertical. Although this wire is thin it is loosely attached to bars. But due to the motion of this attachment (a metal washer) when the hood is open and closed, it wasn't possible to just gaffer tap the contacts. What I did is use thin 'Presto Felt', which is self-adhesive and placed small 2mm squared of felt, around the washer, that would not stop the motion, but would stop the metal on metal contact that was producing the rattle. I did this at both end and now I have peace and quiet.

I have also felted my rear storage bins and has reduced the locker rattle that I was also hearing.
