Hi this is my first post as just brought a MR2 last weekend and my first priority has been upgrading the audio. I have brought a new head unit and will put it in this weekend but was wondering which speakers would people choose for under £100 these are the two i have been looking at:

I'd recommend the Focals, got them in mine, they sound really good and I'm only running them off the head unit! That's a cracking price too

Ok I'll grab the focals thanks for the advice.

Without wanting to sound rude, I wouldn't choose "vibe" over JL or Focal!

That price is great for JL, though I think I prefer Focal personally. A friend had a full JL install in his e30 and I found it a little bright/harsh, still very good but...

I'd love a set of these Focals:

...just in case anyone isn't sure of Focal's status!
They pretty much make the ultimate speakers

I had a set of really expensive Focals in my first 2, they sounded brilliant, but the Alpine X series speakers in my previous and current 2 sound even better. I think its due in no small part, to the crossover units, which are easily the most complex I have seen for a car.

Focal x-overs are usually pretty massive so the alpines must be prety special.
Some nice polyglass examples...

The Alpines that I have are a possibly more complex than those,. Here is a pic of one similar to mine.

I had to modify the foam in the door cards to accomodate them.

Infinity 6530c components in mine.  Very bright, but as my upper frequency hearing has faded fast (22yrs old) they suit me perfectly.  My puma had 5 1/2" Hertz dsk 165 components which were phenomenal, bit too small for the MR2, plus they were backed by a 12" genesis sub for the lower notes.

Finally heard a set of focals the other day and I was impressed.

Probably worth mentioning what amp you're using too as that has a big effect.  I have two genesis profile 2, one for the speakers and another bridged for the JL UD sub.

I agree up to a point with the amp comment.
Once you start spending £100 and up on component speakers, you really need a separate decent quality amp.
For budget/mid range speakers a reasonable head unit should suffice...

Of course dedicated amps are always going to be better than the one in your HU  s:) :) s:)

You will deffo hear the difference with a set of Focals.
Are you running a standard HU at the mo?
Who makes your Amp

Vibe Amp,

Its Great, i wanted something small.. but with enough power, its very well suited to the focals actually..

It comes in a 4ch version, but im going to get an underseat focal sub. which has its own amp on it anyway!

Im running the Pionneer Appradio 2 found here:
