2000 1.8vvti engine rattle

Just wondering if people would know if this is a common problem.

I have a W reg mr2 1.8vvti and has started making noises, has covered 96,000miles.

1) just from cold start up after standing for couple day slight rattle for couple seconds, timing chain tensioner. I can live with that though.

main issue is:

2) accelerates ok, on slow deacceleration sounds big ends knocking. If this a known fault?

Welcome Scotty, and oh dear! Sounds all too common. Just pop oval bore into the search box, top right. I hope its not that, but it does come up quite often.

sounds like a big end issue...I had that problem with my car
