It just stays at the length I've had it,  if I reach behind the plastics and feel it there is plenty of tension there but something at the top is stopping it.  Anyone had a similar issue before I start pulling things apart!

Thing is I don't think a new belt would cure it,  if I 'help' it behind the plastic it reels back in at the rate it should,  it just won't do it unaided so something must be blocking it

I had this issue on a car I nearly bought. Walked away when someone suggested that it may have been as a result of the pretensioners firing in a crash.
Not sure how you'd double check that though.

Ah interesting,  my car has been bumped in the front in the past,  how would I go about changing/checking them anyone?

I don't even know where to find them and a Google search reveals nothing,  fancy meeting up to look at them?

There just behind the plastics mate. Where the belt reals into. Just push the little plsstic clips in on top of the the section ur removing. Then pull the plastic off. U will see the belt underneath mate. Dead easy. Bit dark to look now like init mate lol

So how do I replace the tensioner and where do I get one from?

You would need to just replace the seat belt unit itself. As said japcity have a few in for breaking or I may still have my old belts lying around somewhere.  Its only like 1 or 2 bolts to swap them over to be honest.

Ah so the tensioner is built in? Are the belts all the same throughout the age range?

Absolutely mate yes. The only benefit from getting a belt from a newer car is it might be cleaner lol thats all though

My friends Civic does exactly the same! It passed its MOT today again, no advisories and 145k on a W reg is pretty good.
