I've just discovered that my engine light is not functioning and I'm pretty sure of the reason.  I've just put my OBD tester on the car and it shows up the common Po135 sensor issue.  I'm assuming rather that fix the fault the garage have just bypassed the light or something.  A search on here has revealed nothing, how can I get my light working again?

Replace the bulb? Lol oufff schoolboy error that zonda, how many times have we seen to check the light on threads giving buying advise to newbies lol.  Luckily for you the clocks are a 2 min job to remove to check the bulb, its either a bulb removal or a resistor of some description fitted to it. Are u sure the light isnt working and it's just not an old fault stored on the ecu?

You need yo remove and dismantle the instrument panel. Don't worry though it's really not that difficult. Drop the steering wheel to its lowest position, grab the binacle and pull. There are three Philips head screws and some plugs around the back of the cluster. Then you need to free the front off it and check the eml. Sometimes it's as simple as a bit of tape, blutack or gum over the led. Sometimes it's more sinister and the led has been broken on the circuit board.

You can replace if you have soldering skills. Any garage that does this are scumbags in my opinion, and now a non functioning eml is an automatic mot failure.

Will have a look tomorrow. I swapped the clocks in my Soarer and that was a sod of a job so this sounds a doddle! Are there any pics of the light so I know what I'm looking for?

Ok so I've got all the clocks out and dismantled but there is no sign of any foul play! The eml bulb is in place and nothing has been tampered with.  How can I test the bulb?

It should come on when the ignition is switched on, then go off after the ecu does its checks or when the car is running.

It isn't a bulb, it's an led mounted on the circuit board.

As wabbit says. U need to heat the solder up and remove the led. Then replace with one from maplins. About 5-10p each

Just took it to my local garage who also do my MOT's they said engine management light is not covered on the MOT so it can wait. I'm not messing with solder!

Did you look close enough to see whether someone had stuck something into the LED, if you thought it was a bulb maybe you weren't looking at the right one?

No, it was the right one and looked identical to the two either side of it.

I suppose it's quite possible that it's burned out, never seen one not work unless it had been doctored. Might be worth getting a multimeter on to see if it's actually getting any voltage. No huge emergency now you have your obdii reader  s;-) ;-) s;-)
