Ball joint dust covers / boots / gaiters

Having problems with the dust covers on my lower ball joint dust covers. I damaged both of the original ones when I removed the wishbones to fit polybushes. I replaced them with ones the same size, but I can't seem to get them to seat properly. They're not splitting, but just come away from the ball joint at the bottom (I can't seem to clip them on securely). I've replaced them twice now (a pain in the butt to take everything apart each time), with no success. I need to get it MOT'd this month, and I don't want it failing on this.

Has anyone successfully replaced the dust covers - if so, what type did you use, and any tips?? The last thing I want to do it spend £££ on new wishbones (and have to refit all my polybushes) for the sake of a couple of dust covers - the ball joints themselves are fine  s:evil: :evil: s:evil:  .
