Odd smoking issue.

Found plenty of threads about smokers on here but none seem to be doing what mine has just started doing.  When you are slowing down for roundabouts/corners and pull away I'm getting large puffs off blue smoke. It doesn't smoke at idle or under standing start acceleration, just when it's come down the rev range and back up. I'm thinking valve stem oil seals. Any thoughts and what's it likely to cost to fix?

Valve seals?

EDIT: Oh you said that ... er, I'm just agreeing   s:oops:  s:oops:

Blue white smoke from failing valve stem oil seals.

On start up after the engine has been left for some time (oil leaks past stems into the cylinder and smokes when burned on start up and will then clear).
After conditions of high cylinder vacuum (oil is sucked into cylinder so after idling in traffic, or after deceleration from speed). Again will clear at normal cruising speeds  and when accelerating because I think the 'blow' overcomes the 'suck'   s:scared: :scared: s:scared:   if you know what I mean.

If it's rings then I think you will get more smoke on acceleration as oil is forced past them with low vacuum. I certainly did on a couple of stuffed motors, so look in the mirror or get a mate to follow when you are driving.

On a high miles worn engine then you may get both.

How much oil are you using?

Unfortunately there no way to give a price,

You might just need a new maf sensor
Have you used a error code device yet?

It will cost around £180 that £40 hr
Just to get to the head where there oil
Seals seat now the checking of seals then
Checking the piston vales that up to
£380 then there new gaskets and new oil and service
Ill say £500 to £600 properly done,
Let say the engine starts to just blow blue smoke
Most people just get a recon engine £1000 fitted
But then there the upgrade to a 2zz engine.

You can try and get a side mechanic try
And change the seals only but it usually deeper
Then just oil seals , oil seals are very solid
Sometimes if your lucky there slightly cracked
And the change is good but most time your
Find there new piston valves needed and need
Of new gaskets , recon injectors ,
Best get a code reader   And pray it the maf sensor

All the best redarrow/ john.

If you goto your car and take the coolant lid
Off see if there any goo like mayonnaise also
Look at the lid of the oil and oil stick for a mayonnaise
Looking substance might be not known but
Could be blown gasket have a cheek i no
These car don't suffer this just a chance?
See also if the coolant is cloudy?
These are the dreaded code your get with cheap 02 sensors.
P0135 drivers side position. (o2 sensor heater malfunction (bank 1 sensor 1)
P0155 passengers side position. (o2 sensor heater malfunction (bank 2 sensor 1)
P0141 passengers side down below exhaust position. (o2 sensor heater malfunction (bank 1 sensor 2

If it blue smoke that is not a maf sensor as it has no control over the oil. If any car has blue smoke it is burning oil and something is warn. The post above yours explains well on why and how. As for piston valves I do not know what you mean.

What i meant was cheeking the piston vales while changing the oil seals
As i suspect there be a thu broke here and there and
Might aswell get them replaced while the head is off/ open.

Sorry for any confussion .

Broken valves will give you no compression on that cylinder its broken. One broken valve can really murder the engine.
