Hi guys

Just looking at tyre options for my FL. I have TEIN springs fitted (33mm rear drop). Will I get away with 225 45 R16 Rears on standard wheels without rubbing?

The tyres I want (Yoko AD08R) are cheaper for 225 45 16 than they are for standard 215 45 16

Many thanks

I wouldn't put 225 on anything less than 7.5j

I'm running 225/40/16 on my FL rears (as do several others) and it's been fine.

They are Toyos though which I believe are a fair bit softer in the sidewall than the AD08s so may give a bit more room for manoeuvre? That said at 45 you've got a bit more to play with anyway.

They'll be fine for clearance.

I'm running 225/50/16 on stock wheels (don't ask!), and lowered 25mm+ with Tein Superstreets.

As Andy has said, the 225/40 is popular here.

Try ears Motorsport. The correct size is £112 compared to £117 for 225/45.

If you have found them cheaper elsewhere, let me know!

Toyo t1r's £73 collected. Then a tyre place by me will fit them for £10. £20 for 4

Have a look not sure what there postage costs.

I was referring to the AD08R the OP was asking about.

The OEM tyre was 215/45/16

I've used 225/45/16's on standard facelift rears with no problem at all (Hankook RS2's, Yoko AD08's). IMO they are the optimum size (coupled with 195/55/15 fronts).

I know 225 aren't meant to go on 7j rims but I've see plenty of pics and they look fine. I'm guessing as long as the side wall isn't too big you'll be fine

I've currently got 225 / 45 16's fitted but am changing to 225 / 40 16's. (both are Toyo T1R).  225's as a width fit with no problems.

Thanks for the replies guys, I just thought it would be good to have some extra rubber on the road for similar £££. But I read on another thread the larger rolling radius noticably affects the gearing so i'm leaning more towards the OEM size since I don't think you can buy the AD08 in 225 40 R16.

I don't think you'll regret 225/45/16 AD08s to be honest. Everyone I've heard use them has always been very complimentary.

Ok I've just ordered a full set of AD08R from EARS motorsport. I had to go with 225 45 instead of 215 45 anyway since nobody seems to have any stock at the moment.

Front 195 50 R15
Rear 225 45 R16

Only thing is compared to standard size tyres the front will ride 4.5mm lower and the rear will ride 4.5mm higher, hopefully it won't look like a hot rod!

How are 225/45 rears in the wet?

Just wondering how 225 rears are in the wet?
Any aquaplaning? Snap oversteer?
Or is that not a problem until they are worn out?

Never had any issues with mine. As long a the tread and pressure is good you shouldn't have any problem.

Fitted AD08s today and they look fine, can't comment on how they drive yet as it's monsoon season up here.

Any recommended tyre pressures for track day?
