Just been hit by a dust cart who was blocking the road when I tried to get around him in a parking bay - his nearside front wheel did the damage. Wing and bumper front offside is repairable by a quality repair shop of whom I seen their work. The tyre is totalled and is being replaced so as I can at least drive it easily , the tyre people have said the rim safety bead is ok even with a dig in it. On the spacesaver now and there is road noise from that tyre but it steers ok no wobbles and steering wheel holds straight and no wandering on the road. No other damage that I can see, sons coming over to night to check out steering and suspension as a final.

Dam insurance company has said its a right off and wanted to send Lancasters over to confirm it - told them I dont want them near it based on experiences when they were Lookers so I have sent of a load of damage pictures. They have said they might make an offer and I keep the car and depending on the damage it wont be written off.

F**king dust car drivers drive at brake neck speeds no care for anyone else on the estate where I live and leave piles of crap on the road every week!!!!!

I was about to ask what direction does the rear caliper piston wind in as I have new discs and pads to fit!!!!!!! Any one help?

Good luck with this mate.
Insurance companies are a nightmare.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Hopefully, just panel damage you can sort out with the insurance company if they don't write it off. Trouble is, you never get what the car is worth to you.
Plenty of panels around, and they bolt off/on easily. Sad times  s:( :( s:(
At least no one was hurt!

Insurance want to write it off, some good news wing and bumper are very repairable according to a local panel beater/sprayer whose work I have see. It appears theres no significant damage other that a bracket for the headlight which is slightly bent as my sun has had all of the wheel arch protectors off, the main body is ok. Suspension and sterring look ok but will get the the tracking checked on Monday when I collect the wheel. Headlight needs to be replaced £129 from a supplier on here which isnt too bad. The wheel just needs a bit of tidying up plus a new tyre. lets see what the insurance company says. Did some research on lorry mirrors and they should have 2 each side giving full all round vision, this guy clearly didnt look as he said he never saw me. The insurance did say it could be a cash offer and not written off so lets see what the Councils insurers say. Still cant believe it happened as I didnt move more than 10 feet. I have no doubt I will be the loser again.

As a point of interest, most lorries have 4 mirrors on the nearside. If properly adjusted, you should be able to see all the way down the front of the vehicle, including the front bumper. All the way down the side of the vehicle, including the step and wheel  arch. As well as the standard and wide angle mirrors. There are very few 'blind' spots on a truck, if the driver is paying attention.
Also, alot of little rigid trucks (like a rubbish truck) will have cameras to the rear and sides. It's part of the driver's job to check the adjustment of all his mirrors as part of his daily walkaround checks. Either he didn't look, or he lied on his check-sheet. Guess what I've been doing for a living for the last 20 years or so, and I've never even scratched another vehicle! Mind you, that's why they're called 'class 2' drivers, and I'm a class 1 driver.

Sounds like its knock for knock if you were moving at the same time he was reversing you should have just stayed still and let him hit you. If he looked in his mirror and you weren't there and you were driving in a parking bay you've not got much of a leg to stand on

He was stationary when I moved off as he was loading skips into the back, they cant move whilst doing that function, he then pulled away without looking and passing into me whilst i had stopped due to him starting up. I immediately stopped when he started,  parallel to him as he then cut across my path to get to the parking bay exit then the impact. I started out behind the cab when he was stationary. He was going forward from a stationary position!!

Just looked at th dustcart pictures and the evidence seen is pretting damming, From the mirror positions is that he could not have failed to have seen me if he had used the mirrors when pulling away as one is pointing directly downwards to the rear above above the cab on the front near side wheel.

Well some good news today in part, collected the wheel and new tyre, bill came to about £66 with Vat , wheel was ok just a slight mark on the rim, had the tracking checked and its spot on no problems. Then theres that terrible noise I had from the front and chronic handling has been confirmed to have been the skinny spare, the car handles as it did just need to be careful with one new tyre on the front now. Hada price for the backs 205/50 15's same as front £66 inc balancing and fitting as it wont belong before i need them -providing i keep the car with a decent payout of course. fingers crossed

i feel for you mate, as i think the biggest problem with insurance company's is how long they take to sort things out. end of the day its there job.... why does it take so long to come to a decision?

A friend of mine had a accident, totally not his fault other guy admitted to being at fault, yet this still took 8 months for my mate to get his money. it was only £1300 plus his excess back because he had to pay that for some reason too......... insurance company's boil my  spiss piss spiss .

just worked out in 12 years of driving i have paid £13000 in insurance and never made a claim, yet knowing if i need them they will do everything in there power to not pay out.

Good news - insurance phoned me today and based on the pics i sent in they are prepared to pay up to a reasonable limit - wont cover main dealer prices and you all know on what I think of them now! just need the quote from bodyshop which I chased up this afternoon as its not arrived yet and was posted earlier in the week, tyre and headlight will come to £196 which leaves some tolerance on bodywork budget.

Next will be , "will I be caught for an excess"? Thats dependant on the Council putting their hands up to it I guess!

If its like my friend he had to pay it out, but got it back once it had all been sorted, if that makes sense.

If it starts to get heavy Norman, go the Health and Safety route.
The refuse wagon parked where it represented a significant HAZARD The driver should have done a mental RISK ASSESSMENT prior to moving, ie he should have checked all of his mirrors.
Sufficient CONTROL MEASURES should have been in place, ie he should have been properly trained for the special circumstances which surround driving a refuse wagon.
The fact that he may have a clear track record takes no account of how many NEAR MISSES there may have been.
The council failed in their DUTY OF CARE because the driver was clearly NEGLIGENT.

Worked for me in an Aldi delivery wagon encounter. They will try to fob you off so just be the broken record and keep going back with the same message.

Cheers on that mrzwei, already primed that route in a letter to the insurance and topped it up this morning by the apparant lack of a Banksman in a tight situation and clearly not using mirrors - I do a fair of H&S connected with roads in my job so I well aware of a good few words of wisdom to make H&S Officials cringe with fear hehehe. I am waiting on the councils response - will attack via the elected offical if need be, they hate that if it shows a weakness in their internal systems. I'll wait before firing a full broadside!
