Do i have an SP240? Seems so!

Hi guys.

I have recently aquired an MR2 Roadster with a silverstone performance turbo kit. I am trying to work out exactly what i have so i can get it insured!!

INVOICE

TTE Turbo kit (fully onstalled)  £4,254.47
SP Sports clitch (fitted price).  £518.30
SP full exhaust system - de-cat down pipe and backbox.  £594.04
SP Stage 2 +50bhp package comprising uprated injectors,minduction,
fuel pressure regulation system, SP ECU and custom mapping - £1,701.28

Thing is it doesnt feel like 240bhp. Ok, we have some highly modified Lotus's which are seriously quick so our perception of quick may be out and not realise how quick this car really is. Or, it isn't happy with a 3/4 tank of quite old fuel!!

Any help would be appreciated.

That is indeed a TTE Turbo with the SP240 upgrade package.  If you can PM me the detail you have on the car (are the initials of the previous owner JB?) I can shed more light on it.  It is entirely plausible that it's down on power. Lack of foam (air) filter maintenance is the first thing I'd be looking at.

I guess Matt is saying it could be choked. But the car has done seriously low mileage since the conversion in 2008. Will pop it off and have a grope. I'm placing my bets on old fuel causing it to back off. But then i dont know how sophisticated the ECU is....

Elises do demand a lower premium for some reason, one reason why I moved to Elise ownership.
Cute & fluffy animals were definitely hurt during the production of this post, there're plenty more where they came from

How unbelievably coincidental....i haven't been on here for ages.

I too have an SP240, kit bought second hand and fitted by Matt. I was driving about in it today thinking that maybe it wasn't quite as feisty as it used to be an started thinking about air filter maintenance. Thanks Matt; I will have a look at the weekend.

Yepo, Turbo was going to cost me 3K on MR2  s:( :( s:( . While an elise with the same BHP per ton costs under £800.

Dont think me rolling my other halfs lotus off a mountain road in the Alps has helped with the insurance   s:? :? s:?   I made a bit of a mess of that and wrote it off Cat B. Got out without a scratch though! I'm definately keen on a roll over hoop for the MR2. This saved my life in the lotus. As too did wearing harnesses.

I'm always amazed when people walk away when they roll open top cars. Someone was looking out for you, hopefully they can pull a few strings with the insurance.
