I regret selling my cheap eBay WiFi one now. I had to use my old iPhone to use it, but at least I could read/clear codes

I have an older  obd2 reader that  did the same and removed  the  two  pins necessary to make it work  and it was fine, I just wanted one of the stubby ones to replace  it, I tried the pin removal and it stopped  the abs flashing  but still  lit up the airbag  light.

I use OBD diagnostic Toyota Pro with mine on my phone good thing is it will do imports as well if you upgrade to the pro version

Are you starting the car with the reader in place?
If i do that with mine it sets off the abs so i always start the car beforehand.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Quote from: "Les"Got the one on the right and it didn't work, I paired it and got it to connect but it set my ABS flashing and lit up the airbag warning light (see vid) I contacted the seller and he sent me another one foc and it does the same.......... [youtube:1ak9q1qi]H4krMOXU948[/youtube:1ak9q1qi] if you plug it in after starting the engine the ABS doesnt flash but the airbag light is showing dim all the time.

You pays your money, you takes your chance.......... it cost less than a fiver

I have this cheap ebay reader. All you have to do is snap off one of the pins. I can't remember which one but it's on this forum somewhere...

Found it.

Like I said......did the pin removal on the same mini type one but it still shows a fault.

I did do the pin removal back in 2012 with the older one and that was fine, it's just that I wanted the shorter obd2 because the longer one gets knocked out easily if left in all the time.

So basically the key here is that if you want a Bluetooth module to work with your 2, you just need to spend money

Not sure......I would hate to get a more expensive reader that basically does the same thing and it had the same problem.

I have this exact reader and haven't had to cut out any pins. Is there something different about our cars or although they look the same are the readers different?

Probably. this is the problem with cheap ebay stuff I guess.
But still, I can't say it doesn;'t work, because it does....just not on the 2. So technically it's not broken.

It's like having a knife that cuts through everything but not carrots. You can't say it doesn't do what it's supposed to do. The MR2 is a carrot. Stupid orange legumes.

For further reference this is the cheap ebay reader I had the ABS problem with, which was fixed with pin snap.

Car model is a 2000 UK spec.

I think I'll try the pin snap thing, I'd like to leave mine connected all the time.
I've got the one pictured in "Rogan" post

Obdlink was going to be my next bet. Is it worth it? They're pricey

because I use apple iphone I am limited to Wifi ones. I must admit I would prefer something a lot smaller

I use either iphone or ipad and the reader is Bluetooth but as has been said it was an expensive solution.
It is dedicated to the BlueDriver app by Lemur which can be downloaded for free and has limited functionality to read codes but if you want live feeds from just about every sensor and measurement available to the ECU then you have to upgrade.

It doesn't set off any false lights or readings, just a bit fussy about the order you plug in, link and read.

in a word.... no lol
I brought it because it's meant to be faster but it would seem that the protocol is as fast as it's going to be with the cheap ones! I sill only get about 6 reads per second   s:( :( s:(
However, I haven't found a car this thing hasn't worked on yet!
as a bonus though I leave it plugged in and the thing is so small i don't kick it getting in and out of the car like the other one that's built like a brick!

I bought Proscan ELM Bluetooth for Android Phones on fleabay £9.95.  Seller was nj_diagnostics who I'd use again.
Easy set-up with Torque app and its fine to leave plugged-in.
Only problem is I've no errors yet   s:bounce: :bounce: s:bounce:

Yesterday I managed to get the small reader to work with the mr2...
Which is very odd.

How can it suddenly start working? Took a while to connect though.

I have the one on the left and the one on the right is in the post. The left one works fine with my Skoda and Torque but cannot talk to the ECU in my MR2.
