That's not bad. The oil itself is 26 quid on my "deal" from Toyota. So it's 50 excl Toyota 5w30. That's spark plugs, oil and air filter and sump plug.
So I guess same deal as we used to have on here... Minus the oil...
...neutiquam erro.

Quote from: "shnazzle"That's not too bad then. Mine's in a good state but would still require a dip. I don't understand why it has to let any water in at all. If there's a way to seal it up completely I'd be keen on doing so
Bung up the 4 unused holes on the top, that will help. 3 are used by the heat shield bolts (the clean bits) and the other three are water holes  s:o :o s:o

Because of the exhaust being so close to the subframe the heat generated causes condensation to form on the inside so it's in effect weep holes !

Might be worth seeing if a group buy was possible?

Sorry to revive this but I think a group buy is a great idea.
If you plan on keeping your car for more than a couple of years there is a good a chance you'll need one.
I would be seriously interested.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Surely if your cars less than 12 years old any corrosion would be covered by the warranty - that is if you have service history!

Well that's the crux of the matter, most of these cars are onto something like their 3rd owner so may not have full Toyota service history (I know mine hasn't) plus maybe over 12 years old so having a spare cross member helps with making the car a bit "future proof".

The service history thing is a bit of a con really isn't it. I mean wtf does a x member have to do with a service? How would they have prevented it? Put cavity spray in as part of the service?  Weld it up perhaps? I don't f in think so! Sorry guys just winds me up!

Most body work only gets a 6 year warranty. That being the fact. Toyota would have made the cross member as cheap as possible to withstand 6 years of motoring.

My father used to work for a company that manufactured parts for motor industry. I remember him telling me that the Japanese made parts to a lesser tolerance than the British. Their philosophy was to manufacture a part to achieve a given period not go beyond.

That's why we have Japanese imports, they sell there second hand cars to us. Nobody wants a car in Japan with 100k on the clock

That makes a lot of sense. Plus with the 2 I am sure weight was a consideration

When launched, the roadster came with a 60,000 mile / three year warranty, a six year paint warranty and a twelve year anti-perforation bodywork warranty.
Ex.MR2 SMT sadly missed.
Saab 9-5 Turbo, Hirsch stage 1, Sports suspension and anti roll bars, uprated disks, sports intake and filter and various other bits. 210bhp, 320Nm.

Question is the is cross member body work?

Toyota would probably argue that it is not.  s:crazyeyes:  s:crazyeyes:

If you have FTSH they will replace your crossmember under warranty.

Like most things the devil is in the detail.

This may be of use.
I have highlighted what I consider the salient points. Page 14.

The starting point, is not, is it a body part. Their own wording states "main components"

Could a cross member be classed as not being a main component?
I am sure it can be argued it is with out too much effort.

My 2005 MR2 has a full TSH with 10 Toyota services, does this mean I would be covered?

I would believe so. It probably won't be easy to get them to do it but Mattperformance among others has told me it is possible.
