For value and performance you just can't beat the Toyo Proxes IMHO, many of us run them (T1-S or T1-R).

The Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD-2 (or -3) have also been mentioned as being excellent (I can imagine that, but they're also considerably more than the Toyos  s:) :) s:) )

The only real rule is - avoid cheap plasticky crud tyres  s;) ;) s;)

Goodyear GSD2 is no longer available for teh rears. All stock is dealer stock only, since you don't want to mix tyres I'd steer clear of this now.

£160 all in for a set of Toyos get my vote.

This is for a pre face lift 15" all round. Unfortunately if you  have 16" rears the ante goes up quite a bit and sizing is not quite as straight forward. Being somebody who hasn't bought yet I think this is still good value though. Just waiting for the RE042s to wear out - looking for roundabouts!

£167 for 4 tyres? 2x15" + 2x16"?

If so what were the 16"? 225/45/16, 205/50/16 or ....

Can't find either size in Toyos on  w www.mytyres.co.uk w  In fact can't find ANY Toyos!

I would appreciate a link or some further info.

Thanks.

Seen that before   s:oops:  s:oops:  Sorry but I was guessing. Any way when I costed the 225/40/16 it was much more than £40 (around about £80 I thought), and as I say Mytyres don't seem to do Proxies now.

Obviously if yours & Kris' were bought some time ago it may not be relevant now.

225/40/16 are a little more expensive, however teh 195/50/15 is cheaper than teh 185/55/15 so it balances, Camskill come to mind as teh place to buy at present.

Only place i can find T1-Rs is Camskill and they're £48 for 185/55/15 and £49 for 205/50/15 (with a discount if you ring them and buy 4 apparantly... will try tomorrow).

My usual tyre garage could get the 185/55s but said the Toyo factory was out of the 205s.

Anyone know anywhere that has any in stock now for less cash?

GS-D2s are discontinued, and the wholesaler just told me that stock size GS-D3 rears have been withdrawn cos "they're not very popular".   s:? :? s:?   (see also  m http://www.mr2roc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5284 m )

I really rate this tyre. Anyone know of any stock left over? Its red's 5th birthday in 2 weeks and I want to get her some new boots!

General consenus is don't mix the tyre brands and go for the Toyo's as a great replacement for stock.  A large amout of happy members on here can't be wrong, as you are in Essex could arrange a meet and you could have a go of mine with the Toyos on if you want?

Hi all,

I've just put a deposit down on a '51 MR2 Roadster, i don't know much about them yet. Could anyone advise me on the best tyres to put on this car and which size. The dealer is going to put a full set of tyres on for me but i know he's going to put on the cheapest ones he can find and i would rather pay a bit more for better tyres.

Please help.

Thanks Sparky.

This is what I'll install this Saturday (yokos).
Can you please let me know according to your experience, what air pressure should be correct for better gripping?

Thanks in advance.

stick with the stock pressures, you'll find them on a sticker in the glove box

If he's fitting Yoko Neovas, stock pressures are too high.  Can't remember what I finally ran mine on but it was significantly less than stock, particularly at the front.

I'll have posted them at some point, a search will probably find them.

Ah, no idea then.  Start stock and work down from there depending on what you want and what it does.
