Why does my tow loop not fit the front of my car?

Was hoping to source a second MrT tow loop for when I do TD's, so I'll have one front and rear of the car.

Last time out, had it installed onto the rear of the car, no issues.

Have recently tried to fit it to the front point, but for the life of me, it doesn't seem to want to screw in.

I've tried going clockwise and anti clockwise, but it just does not want to bite, almost as if it's too small a hole for the bar to screw into??

It is a PFL 1999 MR-S import if that makes any difference?

I'm gonna attempt removing bumper to get unhindered access at the weekend to see if that makes a difference unless anyone can offer alternative, helpful advice?

I've always struggled with the the front tow bar. Do you have a zunsport grill? Mine used to have to go in angled. To the head closer to the ground and the thread pointing to the sky.

Normal grille Josh.

As per the FB page, might be due to it being Cat C when I bought it, but was told (by garage that put it on an alignment jig) that is was at most, marginally out.

Will try the thread cleaning suggestion.

Still not sure of bolt size for that point still?

Bought these "ONE PAIR OF ADJUSTABLE GATE HINGES EYE BOLTS 20mm x 150mm LONG THREAD 19mm PIN" on ebay with a view to cutting them down, to insert smaller tow strap bolts to them, but they were too small (narrow) for the female thread!   s:? :? s:?

The repair to the damage might have left you with two different ones?
