Gearbox oil change completed today.

Drained into a garden seed tray - the ones without drain holes!!!! Nice and low, but holds around 5 litres. Old oi looked in good shape. No evidence of metal to be seen.

Most annoying part of the job was pulling the filler cap. Very stubborn. I'm not a fan of adjustable spanners or mole grips, but today they did the job!

Plug out, funnel in;

Gave the car a quick wash too and was very pleased with the way the Renovo soft top products are working! Water just beads off the roof.

Another engine oil check showed super clean oil still and no noticable drop in level.

New headlamp bulbs fitted. One bonus of having the second car, meant I had a headlight to study off of the car, which made bulb removal and refitting a 10 minute job. Photos from inside the car and headlamps could do with a clean!

Before;

After;

Replaced the original retaining clips on the gear selector cable rear bearing mod for some R clips.

Discovered and cured a minor leak from the drivers side window. It was a bit odd as the car had been perfectly dry inside even through some very wet weather. I must have accidentaly grabbed the windscreen frame and bent the metal/plastic clip down, which was then distorting the rubber seal. Bent it back to its proper shape and its cured the leak. Need to replace the plastic cover though .

Normal clip

Bent clip.

Some great work there.

How much difference do you find from the bearing gear linkage ends?

Hi there, I did notice a difference, however, the biggest difference for me was fitting the solid mounts on the gearshift cage. I have found it gave a much more positive feel to gear selection - it just feels solid. It is still occasionally a little notchy when cold (1st and 3rd), but much better than standard.
I didn't actually find that changing the oil made much difference to gear selection on my car, certainly not when cold, but once its all warm its great. A good job to get done though, for peace of mind.
There is a little bit of play in the cable mount on my car which I've been meaning to investigate, but have been rather short of time recently. I'm accumulating a little pile of jobs to do as soon as I get a few clear days........
I'm also thinking long and hard about any mods, as I'm very keen to go down the turbo route, but would rather buy a built car than modify mine - bit annoying as there are a few about at the moment........

I know....... There are currently 3 for sale that I've noticed, and one that was sold a month or so ago - a black one with carbon bonnet - that is now for sale with a blown engine and no seats!!
The trouble is...... logistics. I need to sell my current car before buying a new one due to lack of space.
I'm pretty sure sure I want to go down the route of a professionally converted car though. The SP one does look nice!!
I don't want to end up with an unusable car with daft power, just a nice healthy kick in the back, which is what it sounds like the 1ZZ turbo gives.
I got out dragged by a clio sport at the weekend, mind you, they do only weigh a few kilos more and have an extra 50 or so hp. Caught up under braking and in the bends.

New pads to go in this weekend. I know they don't always get positive reviews on here, but I've enjoyed the improvement they've given on my motorbikes and previous cars, so I am more than happy to give them a go! I sadly only have a standard 1ZZ so don't need any great increase in stopping power. Sticking with standard vented discs, but going with either Pagid or Brembo I think.

Alarm move - at last!!

But not without incident...

Just need to wrap the electrical connectors in self-amalgamating tape and it's job done!!

Found a few scabby areas under the frunk that I want to tidy too, and of course, the rad brackets need a re-furb.

New front brakes fitted. Rear to follow.
Pagid vented discs - standard size.
EBC green stuff pads.

Why is it that every time I complete a job, I then add another to the list, even though it doesn't really need doing...... Caliper refurb/repaint, braided lines, powder coat suspension......

Left precat O2 sensor replaced due to P0155 fault on Dash Command. All good now!!

Always worthwhile refurbing your brakes.
Always seen to be something wrong with mine but i will get there.

Indeed. Nice to know they are in good shape.
I thought I had created a problem after fitting the discs and pads as the ABS light starting flashing when I started the car also when I was sat idling. As soon as I started moving it went out. Did it for two journeys and now it's sorted itself out. Odd!

A long overdue update....... Due to bursting a lumbar disc in my spine, driving and tinkering (along with everything else including work) have been on hold since late April. Awaiting surgery, but in the meantime with some assistance I got round to fitting my Tein S lowering springs with new shock gaiters and bump stops and also had my wheels refurbished and shod with Yokohama AD08R's. MOT today passed with flying colours and the MOT man said "what
a cracking little car!!". Well chuffed.

Springs

New Vs Old

Lowered

Refurbished wheels and tyres

Lowered with new boots- love it!!

Still have a few more bits to fit, so hopefully will have some assistance again this weekend. Looking forward to post-op driving pleasure.....

Looking good! I spy no aircon button - my 03 has it and I assumed all UK FLs had it? Maybe it was a factory extra?

Yes, this one has no aircon. I'm perfectly happy with that - it's got electric windows and a folding roof   s:D :D s:D   - and A/C just adds weight and is something else to potentially fail !!! My 03 has aircon, so I guess it must have an optional extra. Would be interesting to look at an original sales brochure.
I had a problem with the passenger window not working the other day. Tested everything, wiring, fuses, swapped switches etc. and couldn't find a fault. Some time later I found the passenger window locking switch. Doh!
Had a fun drive home from work today in the hot sun. My goodness, it certainly sticks to the road now. Awesome.

AC was an option.
Like hard top or 6 cd changer.
Mine is FUBAR and cant say it bothers me much.
At some stage will remove the rad and gubins to lighten her up.
