I decided to do a bit of research and found this amazing website that's full of info on Mr2 Roadsters. It's at  m http://www.mr2roc.org m !  In a previous thread in this esteemed website, one 'Goeman', in 2010, actually found out how many had been sold in total in the UK;
13,934!!! Over six years.  That's just over 2,000 cars per year.  There's not much of a market there to encourage Toyota to keep making and stocking
They're great little cars and they are getting scarce.
I'm for fixing and saving every single one,

That is very intersting.  They're tough little buggers to have such a high survival rate!  Though, I wonder how many of those registrations are JDM imports.

Hey guys, just got my rear subframe replaced today. Carolyn mentioned drain holes and plugs... I don't believe I have either! Where can I get some plugs from? Or can I just use silicon sealant?
And can anyone pin point exactly where drain holes should be placed? My new subframe is so pretty I don't really like the idea of doing holes in it!!

plugs - from your old one.
The holes will already be there. (or should be) I'm not sure they are designed as drain holes. Just holes. As the lowest point when fitted does not have holes for water to drain.
Quite happy to be told different.

This might help. some pics of mine before fitting

Thanks Ardent, I'll have to call up Luke in the morning to see if there were any plugs left... Don't think there were... Surely silicone will do for a while??

from memory, rightly or wrongly, I believe I have left mine out.

Water can get in easy enough, my thoughts were lets give a chance of getting out via evaporation. The exhaust runs underneath, so will be heating the sub frame up and the water inside, therefore lets give an escape route.
I also gave it a good covering of Bilt Hamber Dynax S50 on the inside so should be ok anyway.
This can be done insitu if required.

That does not look the same as the ones that I've got. Post face-lift?

As for drilling holes.. if you have a preface-lift one, seal up the corners at the top and keep the water out -that should do it!

So how easy is it to seal up the holes after it has been fitted???

The longer your arms the easier i would imagine.
the bungs just push in.
sealing as per carolyn always going to be easier inthe air than on the floor
but doable either way

Sealing the corners can be done on the car.  I ended up forcing it in with my finger - messy but it worked.
I've just pried a rubber plug out of a cross-member. It does look quite specific for the car.  The hole is a shade over 14 mm in diameter.  You can get 14 mm 'blind grommets (solid rubber on the middle - no hole so those would substitute.  Better if you can recover the ones from your old cross-member, I think.  I would try and seal it water will pool at the lowest point at be very slow to evaporate.

Thanks Carolyn, I managed to recover a grand total of 3 plugs... I figure the rest must have just not been there.

I guess I'll have to see if Wickes sell a "grommet pack"!! Otherwise I'll have to see if I can fashion some kind of "bung" to then silicone around?.... hey... what about cork!!! surely that'd be a decent material.. no idea if the silicon would stick to it..

Found these.  Might need a smear of sealant round the edge.

Cheers, I think tonight it'll be a combo of duck tape over the big holes and I'll try and find some kind of super rubbery sealant for the edges...

I collected my shiny new rear subframe from Toyota Nottingham today, £309 inc VAT. No problems with supply at the moment apparently. I will be keeping it locked away until I need it. Can't be too careful.....
Just need to decide on the best way to rustproof it.

Have you got the part number for future reference, or did they know what a rear subframe is unlike Toyota Derby!!

lamcote

Part number is 51206-17040 but yes they knew exactly what part it was. To be honest I can't recommend the Nottingham Toyota dealer highly enough, they are exceptional. Much better than the Mercedes-Benz dealer I use for the other car.

Is that the Toyota dealer near the queens medical on the A52?

Yes that's the one. Maybe I should have waited and we could have gone for a group buy!

By the time you need another one I am sure there will be someone making a nice tubular replacement!
