Just a little update while I'm waiting for Mr T to supply the new noise filter/condensor/capacitor.

While I was on the phone to the parts guy he was having a bit of difficulty identifying what I needed from my description, but we eventually got there with help from the technical guys. In order to confirm we were both talking about the same part he sent me this:

A bit vague but the image on the right shows where it fits on the top of the cam cover.
However, as can be seen from the left hand image, there's yet another capacitor associated with the radio but it's exact position is unclear.

I've had a quick mooch around the radio area but I can't see it. I can't find it in any wiring diagrams either so no clue there.
Does anyone know exactly where it is?
If I can find it I can temporarily fit it on the cam cover and prove for certain that I've found the problem while the new one's in transit.

Ha! I've found the other noise filter on a circuit diagram.
It's part of the rear window de-mister circuit ... well, obviously, why didn't I think of that sooner   s:roll:  s:roll:

Now to find it on the car...

I'm beginning to feel like 'Unlucky Alf" from 'The Fast Show'.   s:( :( s:(
I've fitted the new noise filter but I can't confirm if that has fixed the misfire until I've sorted out my new problem.
Leaking coolant from the front end, probably the radiator.
Currently investigating...

Rad is easy and cheap no need to fret.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

New rad fitted on Monday.
I've just driven 300 miles to Plymouth - no misfires   s:bounce: :bounce: s:bounce:

I'd like to thank all those who took the time to read these posts and provide sound advice and help.
Very much appreciated   s:) :) s:)

seriously was the cause of the misfires a bad radiator?!

Someone please shed some light on this one....

EDIT: Never mind, just realised I forgot it was the noise filter that was causing the misfires.
...neutiquam erro.
