Ok, as per my second 'newbie' thread, here's my white UK roadster.

Details-
UK car
78000 miles
Loads of service history and MOT docs.
Pretty much factory stock, bar the wheels which I might sell, and I believe it's a Magnex dual exhaust.

Plans-
2ZZ swap.
Poly bush and tidy up the arms
Braided brake lines and racy pads
Maybe fit my Recaro Profi SPG
Bracing. Lots of it.
Maybe some lightweight bits too.
Drive the snot out of it and enjoy every moment of it.

White - definitely the best colour (ducks under the table)...
1MZFE, Emerald ECU, LSD, BC coilovers, custom middle & front under brace, F / R strut brace. Slotted discs & yellow pads, Blue flame exhaust.
Carrera leather seats, Davids bars, Focal subwoofer & voce speakers & bling !
TRD Stage 2 F & R spoilers,  Haltezza bonnet, C1 side vents, JDL rear panel

Well it turns out it's a good thing I'm doing the engine swap, as the 1ZZ is using a lot of oil, and bottom end started to knock lightly.

Oh joy. Still drives fine though.

2ZZ is out of the Celica, and just need to strip it down, get the Zero header ordered tomorrow, clutch and flywheel, timing chain kit, fluids, and locate a 6 speed MR2 gearbox.

I've fitted one of Kimil's underbody braces. Made a noticeable difference.

Just to check, you are planning on using the shift mechanism from the mr2 6spd with the celica ratios? You can't use mr2 ratios as the 2zz will fall off cam all the time!

Enjoy the project, 2zz is great fun!

Hi Jonty,

Sorry, that wasn't really clear. I am using the entire Celica drivetrain, but with the LSD from my 5 speed MR2 gearbox, and I've got a 6 speed shifter mech sat in the garage.

I'm just waiting on the Zero header to be made(this week), and a lightweight flywheel to arrive. Then I'll be ready to do it.

Little update-

So the 1ZZ is FUBAR. The 2ZZ is prepped and ready to go in, just waiting on a lightweight flywheel and Zero Exhaust header(arrive this week). And need to put 1ZZ sump on the 2ZZ. And...erm...

Had to do a bit of rust repair on the rear strut turret, cut out a bit, weld in new bit(from Celica door, lol), and make it pretty again.(pics to follow).
Also had an ARB clamp bolt shear right off when removing it all. Sorted now.

Gave the engine bay a good clean up too with the engine being out.

The wiring for the 2ZZ ECU wasn't too hard. I think some instructions need refining as there were some conflicts and confusions. Oh well.

Turns out the car also has Eibach springs, which I might swap for some H&R or Tein(little stiffer).

Pics to follow.

So the 2ZZ is in. All connected up. I think I've ballsed up the ECU pin swapping as I didn't find the instructions that clear.

Had to cut and weld in some new metal on the right suspension turret. It's been repairs, painted, undersealed, and other minor areas have been rubbed down and protected. Hopefully that's the only rot for some time.

And needed a new rear subframe...

But it's in. The hard stuff is done. Now it's just chasing wires and fit the exhaust and suspension.

Excited!

It fired up! Just had to check the wiring, I had put one pin in the wrong place, and sorted the immobiliser.

Currently waiting for Zero exhaust header to arrive, then put suspension back on...and see what it does on the road.

Ready to go, new flywheel and clutch installed. Inlet manifold sprayed with hi-temp paint. Inlet manfiold thermal gasket fitted.

Bit of wiggle and shoving got it into place.

There lurks a 2ZZ. Moved on since this, I've put new subframe in, and plumbed it all back in.

So much for a cheap swap...lol

This beauty arrived yesterday from Zero. Beautiful! I'll be going down to Zero soon for a sports cat.

Theyre a lot of money and nobody can say for sure if theyre any better than the opposition but they look really fine those zero manifolds.

Well done for getting the swap done.
Now all you need is a rotrex.

Fun!
Not likely.

So the swap is basically complete. I just need to get a donut gasket for the cat-backbox connection which I'm getting this afternoon. Put it in, refit the bumper, and take it for a drive...

I ran it for a while yesterday to allow the coolant to properly bleed through and remove any air pockets. The rear has been elevated for a week or so since filling with coolant, so hopefully all clear.

Initially had a high idle, about 2k rpm, but I think that was the ECU relearning as it now sits about 1100, as it was in the Celica.

Hey man, would you be able to provide a sound clip of the exhaust?

So I got the chance to drive my car to work yesterday down the B roads. Great! Seriously, why didn't Toyota fit this engine originally? It's great!

Everything felt right. I had the EML come on, and a quick check revealed it was the Lambda bank 1, so I'll replace it with the original one from the Celica.

I did notice a tiny oil patch under the car at work, and a quick investigation revealed that perhaps the sump sealant wasn't doing its job. It wasn't at all. I removed the sump and the stuff just wiped off with a paper towel. So I've got some proper sealant now.
And in the process of removing the sump, one of the studs sheared off. f**k.

HondaBond FTW! Expensive, but very, very good.

Well done on the swap.

My neighbour had some aircraft spec RTV. That did the job for the sump nicely.

I had snapped one of the sump bolts when removing... scock cock scock ... but managed to drill it out with precision and easy out that sucka. The thread was still sort of OK so a new bolt and some thread lock. Sorted.

Think the drivers side CV boot is leaking a bit so need a new clamp on it.

The ECL light(O2 bank 1), well I  scock cock scock ed up and connected the lambda to bank 2 plug...and chopped the other one off. OOooops. So I pulled the loom out partially, grabbed the wires and pulled them through to the point on the loom where the coilpack leads split off. Soldered the bank 1 wires onto the connectors again, and connected it up. The light still came on...switch the top two wires(live and signal I think) and voila, sorted.

So the car is ace! The engine is awesome in this car.

Future mods-

I've a facelift chassis brace to fit after I've removed the rust and painted it.
Zero exhausts will be doing me a sports cat section.
I currently have Eibach springs, but I want some slightly stiffer, so will go for Tein.
Facelift wheels.
Maybe an oil cooler. Though water temps appear to be OK.

Little bump/update:

Selling up. Will write an advert soon.

Since last update I've mostly been driving it and having fun.

I got a set of facelift wheels, fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 3. GRIP!
Last MOT revealed failing wishbone bushes so I've got poly bushes to go in(front and rear wishbone)
Pitted front brake discs so ordered new discs and EBC yellow pads
Also got a spare aux belt as I thought mine was slipping, it's not. And an crank shaft oil seal as preventative maintenance.

Car now on about 86k miles. Just drives so good. But bike racing matters, hence I'm gonna sell.
