Cars always look great when there clean and part of the cleaning process is those tricky wheels.
Maybe the next time I have a fortnight off work I'll try this wheel cleaning procedure. OMG 20mins just for the video! I don't even spend 20mins cleaning my wheels  s:lol:  s:lol:  .
Much respect to the Guru, the wheels did look great.  s:D :D s:D

Wheels I don't bother with at all... But that's because mine look like I rescued them from a metal crusher.

Don't need to overly bother about mine, as a previous owner painted them black. Although I might try some polish or wax on them to see if it helps remove the brake dust when cleaning the wheels in future.

for my sins I am president of a large classic vehicle club" up North " where for some members car polishing and the like is an art form with the aim of winning  concours events , polish and plastic trim products are very much subjective but we all agree that the very best leather seat cleaner is DoDo Juice bought off the internet from Amazon and similar places, try this product you will not be disappointed

Dodo juice makes some really good products. If I had to replace everything with dodo juice products I'd be very happy to do so

Quote from: "shnazzle"Excellent thread! How do we not have a "detailing" section?

Autoglym Tar remover: 8/10. Dissolves tar spots very nicely.

Meguiars Gold shampoo: 7/10. Cleans well, but low on suds. Easy on wax

Autoglym Shampoo: 6/10. Sudless with  pretty crap dirt removal, but does the job. Easy on wax

ValetPro snowfoam: 9/10. Really loosens up the grime and almost makes the use of two mits (one for top one for bottom) pointless. The quality of the gun is most important for a thick foam. Sticks for a fair while.

Turtle Wax Bug&Tar remover: 7/10 for bugs, 5/10 for tar. Usually douse the front bumper in this stuff and the bugs wipe off, then rinse, then wash as normal. Stinks though.

Meguiars Polish compound:9/10. When used with machine and light compounding pad it removes almost any defect other than really heavy and also leaves a great shine. Also great for manual use. Far outshines Autoglym SRP.

Autoglym SRP: 7/10. Great for a quick polish up and filler prior to a show. But a "cheat" product. Hides imperfections. Do like it though

G3 Scratch Remover: 9/10. One of my all-time favourite compounds. Great for polishing out deeper scratches by hand and also great for headlights. Works in very nicely, dries to a powder and wipes straight off. Amazing when finished with G3 Paint Renovator.

G3 Paint Renovator: 8/10. Finishes off where G3 Scratch Remover starts but also a really good replacement for Autoglym SRP, but does more permanent fixing. Really easy to use. Can easily do the whole mr2 by hand with a bit elbow grease.

G3 Compound: 4/10. Rubbish. Really surprising given the above polishes. Really only works with a rotary polisher and harsh pad for removing deep defects.

Autoglym Wheel Cleaner: 5/10. Cleans well, ish. Agitates to a nice foam. Needs to be left on for a fair while but dries quickly. Doesnt hold a candle to Dragons Breath or IronX.

Autosol metal polish: 10/10. Everybody needs a tube of this stuff for any metal/chrome polishing. Even used on a style bar the results are epic. Must-have.

Demon Shine detailing spray: 5/10. Pretty useless for a quick shine, but I always keep this in stock as a lubricant for claying or polishing.

Bilt Hamber clay bar: 9/10. What can you say. Works well. Warms up quickly. Varying hardness available.

G3 Clay Mitt: 10/10. This is where it's at. A must have. So easy to use and so effective. Havetl to replace them though and are pricier than a clay bar, but would the extra for ease of use

PoorBoys QD+ quick detailer (black bottle) : 10/10. Incredible shine, amazingly easy to use. No streaks. Little goes a long way. Smells amazing. Must have

Fusso 12month dark sealant: 9/10. Lost one point for application as it can turn to cement and make your life a living hell while trying to buff it off. But the protection is the best I've found so far. Excellent water repellency well past 6 months later and makes the car really easy to clean.
Also adds a great deep shine, for a sealant.

Cherry Glaze: 8/10. Still the best glaze aside from PoorBoys Black Hole. Don't use glaze often enough. But if you want that shine, cherry Glaze is a great one to keep in stock. Very easy to apply and can be used with almost any wax/sealant.

Autoglym HD wax: 9/10. Amazing protection, amazing shine. Expensive.

Turtle Wax ICE Glass cleaner: 8/10. Always loved this stuff. Makes the glass look really nice and also adds some great water repellency. No wipers needed over 40mph. Doesny last ages though and streaking does occur if you don't buff well.

RainX: 7/10. Great for water repellency, making wipers pointless over 40mph but no shine and streaks really easily. Also, I'm under the impression that it knacks your wiperblades.

Autoglym vinyl dressing: 8/10. My new favorite products for the soft top. Makes it look really fresh without an over the top unnatural shine. Lasts a good while. Applies very well.

Autoglym tyre dressing: 6/10. Like the vinyl dressing, works well,  but could do with leaving a bit more of a wet look for that impact. Protection lasts, look doesn't.

Turtle Wax tyre and bumper gel: 8/10. Leaves a great looking tyre wall for a good while but is a bit messy to apply. Prefer this to the Autoglym.

Mother's carnauba Wax: 7/10. Sitting on a nice sealant and good paintwork it brings a really deep shine. Doesn't last long though and can only get it in the US.

Pink sheen: 7/10. Great smell and leaves a nice clean finish on anything internal. Just don't put it on anything you touch like steering wheel, gear knob etc. Also works very well on the soft top and even as a tyre gel. I keep about 5 liters of this stuff.

Not going to go into all of the waxes/sealants/glazes I've tried over the years. There's just far too many. But the above is what I use now and I'm pleased with the results.
Also, I've tried a lot of Autoglym lately because it's just easy to come by. Conclusion is.. It's worth ordering "proper" stuff from sites like juicydetailing or cleanyourcar
I have no money he says, I'm always skint he says..... This is why Patrick, this is why

Best streak-free glass cleaner:

5% solution of vinegar in water.  Clean out old kitchen spray bottle, fill with solution.  Spray on lightly. wipe off and buff with newspaper (not kitchen towel).

Absolute magic.

Seriously, if you're going to apply a surface treatment (like, say polish) you want to do it on an absolutely clean surface.  I learned this trick when I owned a hair salon with acres of mirrors.  Try it -you'll like it.

My Nan told me that one years ago when I was renting a house that had a wall of mirror tiles in the bathroom.
Have to agree it works very well

there are some fine household items that can be swapped for car use with great results one I use is Cillit Bang for alloy wheels, get the large spray plastic bottle marked lime and grime for ell under £2 at the household discount stores it is ace on wheels and you can do the kitchen sink to impress the wife when you have finished the car "deep joy "

Has anyone tried snow foam? Any recommendations on both and the lance itself?

Bilt hamber foam for me. I add a small dash of shampoo as well to the lance bottle. Worth paying for a quality lance.

I don't spend a lot of time on washing (currently using Demon Foam, which is fine for the kind of finish I'm after), but... what is the best product for tar spots?
Swmbo has  a white Corsa (yeah, I know!) which seems to attract tar spots like a ruddy magnet! and I'd like to get rid of them without scraping the paint down to the metal, if possible.

I used to use White  spirit available from hard ware stores and B&Q or your shed if you are a home decorator.
This is basically a paint solvent but not aggressive enough to harm car paint.
More recently I use WD40 which will remove the tar spots harmlessly, and also has around 1 Million other uses and so I would offer that to the list of cleaning products!
In either case wash the area off with a car shampoo solution.

Thank you both  s:D :D s:D
I possess both white spirit and wd40 by the gallon, so I'll try them before spending my hard-earned on making her car shinier   s:D :D s:D

I am currently using Valet Pro PH. I don't think it's that great. Think I'll be trying something else once it runs out, maybe  Bilt Hamber as it appear to get good reviews.

Never used a clay bar yet, but bought one yesterday with some other goodies. I'll let you know how I get on when I get round to claying my car.
I think Shnazzle has clayed his car?
