Quote from: "jvanzyl"I know where they came off.. Just don't think they'll be recoverable as I'm assuming they'll be broken? But yeah no Tiger seal.. Just tape.
And hopefully the paint is fine!
Sucks  s:( :( s:(

This is one reason why the originals attach to the vent with screws  s:) :) s:)  Although mine have been sitting in the garage for 5.5 years without going on the car!

Screws??!!! Flip if I'd known that I really wouldn't have even considered the tape...

The wife is making sounds about getting rid of the 2 because the fabia is in need of a suspension over haul and she is right in that it is a luxury having 3 cars... So I basically need to figure out a way of doing the Skoda myself to save the labour costs...
I think I could save a bit of effort by putting coilovers on it (front dampers weeping, rear bump stops gone) but it's all the bushes that are beginning to go... Does anyone know if you need any special tools to fit and remove bushes?

Just you wait till I get a weekend55!

But anyway, I can't imagine it being more than £400 to completley overhaul a fabia.  I certainly wouldn't entertain putting coilovers on one for cost savings!

Thanks all- I'll certainly look at redoing the suspension as OEM as possible. But I'm conscious of that balance between a nice easy coilover unit to install Vs trying to collect all the bits for the standard strut assembly..

Anyway- my main question is the bushes. Do you have to have a press to put new ones in? Or will I be able to do it myself with standard tools?

You need a press ideally, but by far the best solution for the home gamer IMO is buying whichever arms hold the bushes. Bolt out, bolt in.

The process starts with a thorough assessment of what actually needs replacing. Lift it and work out what is knackered/rusty/perished.

Please don't put coilovers on a fabia, you'll ruin a practical daily. False economy. Rebuilding a strut is no bother. I can lend you spring compressors and a 3 jaw puller.

Thank you Joe! I will most likely take you up on your offer!
My view is that when one set of bushes start to go it's very likely that the rest of the car would benefit from their replacement.. full Poly sets are account l available... Bit like you said I'd like to just replace with rubber..

Anyway- thank you for the advice it's given me a way forward.

One bush has to be removed/replaced in the chassis.  All else comes with suspension arm and ball joint.  There are several Youtube vids on the subject.

You could make you own tool, but for the price you might as well...

Wow ok- that's not too bad... The rear trailing arms are the ones that I've been told need replacing... I shall dive into you tube and see what it looks like to replace.

So today I received and fitted my winter wheels (courtesy of Tricky).
I thought I'd inflate them before I put them on - forgetting how the load of the car would increase the pressure....
So basically using my for pump it takes around 350 steps to get to 35psi... So all in all around 1200 steps to inflate the wheels..

Then when I put them on I was looking at 36 and 48 psi!!!! Doh... Anyway I need the exercise.

First impressions are that they are quieter than the toyos, but I'm also concious that the max speed of the tyre is 80.

Now I'm kind of wondering if I should put the hard top on seeing as I've done wheels... Will have to see.

Hope its just the photo but that rear wheel looks like it has an awful lot of positive camber!

If your old tyres have worn evenly it should be ok shouldn't it?
Unless something has moved when you changed the wheels I suppose.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
